A novel metal organic gel with superior oxidase-like activity for efficient and sensitive chemiluminescence detection of uric acid.

Spectrochim Acta A Mol Biomol Spectrosc 2021 Apr 1;257:119773. Epub 2021 Apr 1.

College of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, Lanzhou University, Lanzhou 730000, PR China. Electronic address:

It is found that MIL-100(Fe) gels, as a kind of metal-organic gels (MOGs), constitutting of iron (Fe) and trimesic acid (HBTC), has been regarded as the efficient catalyst of luminol chemiluminescence (CL) system without the presence of extra oxidants in the present work. MIL-100(Fe) gels that have possessed mimicking oxidase-like activity can excellently enhanced luminol CL intensity by accelerating the generation of reactive oxygen species. Furthermore, with the addition of uric acid (UA), the CL signal has been dramatically inhibited under alkaline condition. Read More

The relationship between neutrophil/lymphocyte ratio and uric acid levels in multiple sclerosis patients.

Bratisl Lek Listy 2021 ;122(5):357-361

Background: In this study, we aimed to determine whether neutrophil / lymphocyte ratio (NLR), obtained by dividing the number of neutrophils by the number of lymphocytes, and uric acid (UA) levels in multiple sclerosis (MS) patients vary compared with healthy controls and to establish correlations among these changes themselves as well as between such changes and MS subtypes, immunomodulatory drug use, the duration of the disease and prognosis.

Methods: 150 patients who presented to our hospital and were diagnosed with MS and 150 healthy volunteers were retrospectively included in our study. EDSS score (Expanded Disability Status Scale) was used to assess the disability of the patients. Read More

Gender differences in risk factors for high plasma homocysteine levels based on a retrospective checkup cohort using a generalized estimating equation analysis.

Lipids Health Dis 2021 Apr 12;20(1):31. Epub 2021 Apr 12.

Beijing Geriatric Healthcare Center, Xuanwu Hospital, Capital Medical University, No. 45 Changchun Street, Xicheng District, Beijing, 100053, China.

Background: Hyperhomocysteinemia (HHcy) is associated with various health problems, but less is known about the gender differences in risk factors for high plasma homocysteine (Hcy) levels.

Methods: In this study, a retrospective study was carried out on 14,911 participants (7838 males and 7073 females) aged 16-102 years who underwent routine checkups between January 2012 and December 2017 in the Health Management Department of Xuanwu Hospital, China. Anthropometric measurements, including body mass index (BMI) and waist-to-hip ratio, were collected. Read More

Severe erosive lesion of the glenoid in gouty shoulder arthritis: a case report and review of the literature.

BMC Musculoskelet Disord 2021 Apr 12;22(1):343. Epub 2021 Apr 12.

Department of Orthopedics, Inner Mongolia People's Hospital, No. 20 Zhao Wu Da Street, Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, 010017, Hohhot, China.

Background: Gout is a metabolic disease characterized by recurrent episodes of acute arthritis. Gout has been reported in many locations but is rarely localized in the shoulder joint. We describe a rare case of gouty arthritis involving bilateral shoulder joints and leading to severe destructive changes in the right shoulder glenoid. Read More

Hepatoprotective potential of kirenol on ethanol-induced liver toxicity in albino rats and acetaminophen-induced oxidative stress-mediated apoptosis in hepatic HepG2 cells.

J Biochem Mol Toxicol 2021 Apr 12:e22786. Epub 2021 Apr 12.

Department of General Surgery, The First Affiliated Hospital of Shandong First Medical University, Shandong Provincial Qianfoshan Hospital, Jinan, Shandong, China.

Liver diseases are a major health issue in both men and women and cause significant mortality worldwide. The hepatoprotective effects of kirenol were evaluated in acetaminophen (APAP)-induced toxicity in HepG2 cells and ethanol (EtOH)- induced hepatotoxicity in rats. The cytotoxicity of kirenol (IC , 25 µM/ml) and APAP (20 µg/ml) with sylimarin (IC , 15 µg/ml) was observed in HepG2 cells by 3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide assay.
