Background: Orthopaedic surgeons prefer calcium supplement for various pathologies like fracture, osteoporosis, chronic musculoskeletal pain, yet there is no proper evidence to support the benefits of taking them regularly. The average requirement for calcium is around 500-1000 mg/day for a healthy adult, this amount of calcium is not achieved by diet, especially in developing countries like India.
