Immune Recovery Following Autologous Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation in HIV-Related Lymphoma Patients on the BMT CTN 0803/AMC 071 Trial.

Front Immunol 2021 3;12:700045. Epub 2021 Sep 3.

Department of Hematology & Hematopoietic Cell Transplantation, City of Hope Comprehensive Cancer Center, Duarte, CA, United States.

We report a first in-depth comparison of immune reconstitution in patients with HIV-related lymphoma following autologous hematopoietic cell transplant (AHCT) recipients (n=37, lymphoma, BEAM conditioning), HIV(-) AHCT recipients (n=30, myeloma, melphalan conditioning) at 56, 180, and 365 days post-AHCT, and 71 healthy control subjects. Principal component analysis showed that immune cell composition in HIV(+) and HIV(-) AHCT recipients clustered away from healthy controls and from each other at each time point, but approached healthy controls over time. Unsupervised feature importance score analysis identified activated T cells, cytotoxic memory and effector T cells [higher in HIV(+)], and naïve and memory T helper cells [lower HIV(+)] as a having a significant impact on differences between HIV(+) AHCT recipient and healthy control lymphocyte composition (p<0. Media and Communication Science, University of Erfurt, Erfurt, Germany.

Because of the increasing popularity of voice-controlled virtual assistants, such as Amazon's Alexa and Google Assistant, they should be considered a new medium for psychological and behavioral research. We developed Survey Mate, an extension of Google Assistant, and conducted two studies to analyze the reliability and validity of data collected through this medium. In the first study, we assessed validated procrastination and shyness scales as well as social desirability indicators for both the virtual assistant and an online questionnaire. Read More

Configurational-based institutional analysis: Unbundling the multi-dimensional state fragility construct.

MethodsX 2021 19;8:101209. Epub 2021 Jan 19.

Darla Moore School of Business, Sonoco International Business Department, University of South Carolina, 1014 Greene St, Columbia, SC 29208 USA.

To guide researchers interested in replicating our configurational approach to comparative institutional analysis, we report on a methodology that builds from existing state fragility indices to differentiate between types of state fragility in 189 countries across the world. We first present the steps we used to identify three constituent dimensions of state fragility. We then report how we configured these first-order institutional measures to build a large-N, fuzzy set qualitative set analysis (fs/QCA) of variation in the degree and type of informal economic sectors found across the world. Front Psychol 2021 20;12:623657. Epub 2021 Jul 20.

Division of Speech, Music and Hearing, Department of Intelligent Systems, KTH Royal Institute of Technology, Stockholm, Sweden.

In face-to-face interaction, speakers establish common ground incrementally, the mutual belief of understanding. Instead of constructing "one-shot" complete utterances, speakers tend to package pieces of information in smaller fragments (what Clark calls "installments"). The aim of this paper was to investigate how speakers' fragmented construction of utterances affect the cognitive load of the conversational partners during utterance production and comprehension. Antitumor efficacy and reduced toxicity using an anti-CD137 Probody therapeutic.

Proc Natl Acad Sci U S A 2021 Jun;118(26)

Program of Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Applied Medical Research (CIMA), Universidad de Navarra, 31008 Pamplona, Spain;

Costimulation via CD137 (4-1BB) enhances antitumor immunity mediated by cytotoxic T lymphocytes. Anti-CD137 agonist antibodies elicit mild liver inflammation in mice, and the maximum tolerated dose of Urelumab, an anti-human CD137 agonist monoclonal antibody, in the clinic was defined by liver inflammation-related side effects. A protease-activated prodrug form of the anti-mouse CD137 agonist antibody 1D8 (1D8 Probody therapeutic, Pb-Tx) was constructed and found to be selectively activated in the tumor microenvironment. Measuring uncertainty: A streamlined application for the Ecuadorian economy.

Empir Econ 2021 Jun 1:1-26. Epub 2021 Jun 1.

Universidad Tecnológica Ecotec, Samborondón, Ecuador.

This paper develops a macroeconomic uncertainty index based on the multistage procedure that combines maximum likelihood and Bayesian estimation methods proposed by Jurado et al. (Am Econ Rev 105(3):1177-1216, 2015). Our approach streamlines the computation of the macroeconomic uncertainty index by specifying a state-space model estimated by maximum likelihood that allows us to obtain in one step the parameters of the model, the dynamic factors, and the forecast errors of the macroeconomic variables used to construct the index. The University of Chicago, 5848 S. University Avenue, Chicago, IL 60637, United States of America.

Linguistic input has an immediate effect on child language, making it difficult to discern whatever biases children may bring to language-learning. To discover these biases, we turn to deaf children who cannot acquire spoken language and are not exposed to sign language. These children nevertheless produce gestures, called homesigns, which have structural properties found in natural language. Read More

Wiley Interdiscip Rev Cogn Sci 2020 Nov 10;11(6):e1543. Epub 2020 Sep 10.

Department of Linguistics, Northwestern University, Evanston, Illinois, USA.

While studies of sociolinguistic variation traditionally have focused on correlations between macro-social categories and the use of linguistic variants, sociolinguistic work examining social meaning-making at an interactional level views linguistic variation as a resource deployed by agentive speakers and listeners. The persona has become an important construct in understanding how on-the-ground interactional practice builds up to form larger-scale patterns of sociolinguistic variation and change. Rather than members of macro-social groups, personae are holistic, ideological social types that are recognizably linked with ways of being and speaking. Read More
