Stability of Pharmaceutical Co-Crystals at Humid Conditions Can Be Predicted.

Pharmaceutics 2021 Mar 23;13(3). Epub 2021 Mar 23.

Laboratory of Thermodynamics, Department of Chemical and Biochemical Engineering, TU Dortmund University, Emil-Figge-Str. 70, D-44227 Dortmund, Germany.

Knowledge of the stability of pharmaceutical formulations against relative humidity (RH) is essential if they are to become pharmaceutical products. The increasing interest in formulating active pharmaceutical ingredients as stable co-crystals (CCs) triggers the need for fast and reliable in-silico predictions of CC stability as a function of RH. CC storage at elevated RH can lead to deliquescence, which leads to CC dissolution and possible transformation to less soluble solid-state forms. Read More

Crumpled Versus Flat Gold Nanosheets: Temperature-Regulated Synthesis and Their Plasmonic and Catalytic Properties.

Langmuir 2021 Apr 31;37(14):4227-4235. Epub 2021 Mar 31.

Department of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, Jining University, Qufu, Shandong 273115, P. R. China.

We report a high-yield synthesis of gold (Au) nanosheets with tunable size and surface morphology in the aqueous phase. In particular, crumpled and flat Au nanosheets with a thickness of ∼10 nm could be selectively produced in high purity when the reaction was conducted at room temperature and in an ice-water bath, respectively. Unlike Au nanoplates/nanoprisms in the form of well-defined triangles or hexagons documented in previous studies, the current products exhibit random in-plane branches or holes, together with wavy edges. An effective method for saliva stabilization and magnetic nanoparticles based DNA extraction for genomic applications.

Anal Biochem 2021 Mar 26:114182. Epub 2021 Mar 26.

MagGenome Technologies Pvt. Ltd., First Floor, Plot No. 153, First Main Road, Industrial Estate, Perungudi, Chennai, 600096, India.

Introduction of magnetisable solid phase extraction procedures have provided various advantages over spin-column based extraction techniques. Although certain methods for magnetic bead based extraction of DNA from human saliva already exist, there is still a need to address the inadequate purity profile and low yield which occur due to the inefficiency of extraction methods. Hence, an improved method for DNA extraction from human saliva using uncoated magnetic nanoparticles (MNPs) intended to resolve the issues mentioned above is described here. Read More

Impurity profiling of siRNA by two-dimensional liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry with quinine carbamate anion-exchanger and ion-pair reversed-phase chromatography.

J Chromatogr A 2021 Mar 15;1643:462065. Epub 2021 Mar 15.

Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Pharmaceutical (Bio-)Analysis, University of Tübingen, Auf der Morgenstelle 8, 72076 Tübingen, Germany. Electronic address:

A short RNA with the sequence of the antisense strand of Patisiran has been selected as test material for the investigation of its common impurities using three different two-dimensional liquid chromatography (2D-LC) platforms. On the one hand, a quinine (QN) carbamate-based weak anion-exchange (AX) stationary phase (QN-AX) and a classical C18 reversed phase (RP) stationary phase in ion-pair (IP) mode with tripropylammonium acetate, respectively, have been used in the first dimension (D) to provide the selectivity for impurities formed during the synthesis of the RNA. In the next step, certain peaks of interest from D have been transferred by multiple-heart-cutting (MHC) into a D in which an ESI-MS-compatible non-ionpairing RP method has been used for desalting via a diverter valve to remove non-volatile phosphate buffer components and ion-pair agents, respectively. Selective Extraction of Medium-Chain Carboxylic Acids by Electrodialysis and Phase Separation.

ACS Omega 2021 Mar 12;6(11):7841-7850. Epub 2021 Mar 12.

Advanced Water Management Centre, The University of Queensland, Brisbane, Queensland 4072, Australia.

Carboxylic acids obtained the microbial electrochemical conversion of waste gases containing carbon dioxide (, microbial electrosynthesis) can be used of nonrenewable building-block chemicals in the manufacture of a variety of products. When targeting valuable medium-chain carboxylic acids such as caproic acid, electricity-driven fermentations can be limited by the accumulation of fermentation products in the culturing media, often resulting in low volumetric productivities and titers due to direct toxicity or inhibition of the biocatalyst. In this study, we tested the effectiveness of a simple electrodialysis system in upconcentrating carboxylic acids from a model solution mimicking the effluent of a microbial electrochemical system producing short- and medium-chain carboxylic acids. Study on the Kinetics of Hydration Transformation from Hemihydrate Phosphogypsum to Dihydrate Phosphogypsum in Simulated Wet Process Phosphoric Acid.

ACS Omega 2021 Mar 8;6(11):7342-7350. Epub 2021 Mar 8.

School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, Guizhou University, Guiyang 550025, China.

The key technology of wet process phosphoric acid recrystallization is phosphogypsum phase transformation. In this study, the hydration of α-hemihydrate phosphogypsum (α-HH) to dihydrate phosphogypsum (DH) and the influence of process parameters on hydration kinetics are performed by modifying a dispersive kinetic model in the simulation of wet process phosphoric acid recrystallization. Results show that the modified dispersive kinetic model is very important in describing the entire kinetic process, indicating that α-HH-DH hydration includes induction of nucleation and growth restriction. Generation of sub-MHz and spectrally-bright biphotons from hot atomic vapors with a phase mismatch-free scheme.

Opt Express 2021 Feb;29(3):4632-4644

We utilized the all-copropagating scheme, which maintains the phase-match condition, in the spontaneous four-wave mixing (SFWM) process to generate biphotons from a hot atomic vapor. The linewidth and spectral brightness of our biphotons surpass those of the biphotons produced with the hot-atom SFWM in the previous works. Moreover, the generation rate of the sub-MHz biphoton source in this work can also compete with those of the sub-MHz biphoton sources of the cold-atom SFWM or cavity-assisted spontaneous parametric down conversion. 2D Phase Purity Determines Charge-Transfer Yield at 3D/2D Lead Halide Perovskite Heterojunctions.

J Phys Chem Lett 2021 Apr 26;12(13):3312-3320. Epub 2021 Mar 26.

Department of Chemistry, Imperial College London, Molecular Sciences Research Hub White City Campus, Wood Lane, London W12 0BZ, U.K.

Targeted functionalization of 3D perovskite with a 2D passivation layer via R-NHI treatment has emerged as an effective strategy for enhancing both the efficiency and chemical stability of ABX perovskite solar cells, but the underlying mechanisms behind these improvements remain unclear. Here, we assign a passivation mechanism where R-NHI reacts with excess PbI in the MAPbI film and unsaturated PbI octahedra to form (R-NH)(MA)PbI. Crucially, we show that precise control of the 2D (R-NH)(MA)PbI layer underpins performance improvements: = 1 yields over a 2-fold improvement in hole injection to the HTL; > 1 deteriorates hole injection. Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry, University of Texas at Arlington, Arlington, Texas 76019-0065, United States.

Many of the universal detectors in liquid chromatography, including mass spectrometry, must completely volatilize the chromatographic eluent first before further processing and detection of the analytes. A basic requirement is that the eluent does not contain a nonvolatile dissolved component. However, separation of biomolecules must be conducted in mostly aqueous media of compatible pH and ionic strength if their biological activity must survive the separation process. Read More
