[Clinical Evaluation of Urosepsis in Tane General Hospital ; Clinical Utility of Measurement of Procalcitonin].

Hinyokika Kiyo 2017 Jul;63(7):259-262

The Department of Urology, Nara Medical University.

We clinicaliye valuated 355 patients with urinarytract infections (UTI), suspected of having urosepsis at Tane General Hospital, and determined the usefulness of the biomarker procalcitonin (PCT) as an aid in predicting urosepsis. Clinical and microbiological data were collected. The logistic regression analysis was used to determine the risk factors of urosepsis. Read More

[Effect of nutrient status on the kinetics of cyanophage PP infection in Phormidium.]

Ying Yong Sheng Tai Xue Bao 2016 Apr;27(4):1271-1276

Hubei Key Laboratory of Ecological Restoration for River-Lakes and Algal Utilization, College of Resources and Environmental Engineering, Hubei University of Technology, Wuhan 430068, China.

In this study, the cyanobacterium Phormidium was grown under six different nutrient concentrations, ranging from standard AA medium to a 600× dilutions of that media. After incubation at 25 ℃ and 2000 lx for 8 months, the growth curve for each treatment was measured by direct counting of cell numbers. Additionally, the lytic cycle and mortality rate were determined by monitoring the lytic effect of the host cells using microscopy. Read More

Prognostic value of platelet indices after acute myocardial infarction treated with primary percutaneous coronary intervention.

Cardiol J 2013 ;20(5):491-8

Medical University of L odz, Lodz, Poland.

Background: Mean platelet volume (MPV) is a strong predictor of impaired angiographic reperfusion and 6-month mortality in ST-elevation myocardial infarction (MI) treated with primary percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI). No data is available for other platelet volume indices: platelet distribution width (PDW) and platelet large cell ratio (P-LCR). The aim was to assess the impact of 3 platelet volume indices on long-term prognosis in patients treated with primary PCI in acute MI. Read More

Optimal age at sexual maturity of sympatric and experimentally allopatric cutthroat trout and Dolly Varden charr.

Oecologia 1984 Mar;61(3):319-325

Institute of Animal Resource Ecology, University of British Columbia, 2204 Main Mall, V6T 1W5, Vancouver, B.C., Canada.

Reproductive potentials of transplanted curthroat trout (Salmo clarki) and Dolly Varden charr (Salvelinus malma) and of their donor stocks were estimated from life history data. We found good agreement between observed and predicted age at maturity in all populations, and cannot reject the hypothesis that the fish matured at the age maximizing the overall lifetime reproductive potential ([Formula: see text]). Our estimates were insensitive to probable variations in female fecundity, adult mortalityrate and maximum body length. Read More
