Gross alpha activity in urban sediments as an important indicator of urban environmental processes on the example of three Russian cities.

J Environ Manage 2021 Jun 8;294:113011. Epub 2021 Jun 8.

Zavaritsky Institute of Geology and Geochemistry UB RAS, 15 Akademika Vonsovskogo Str., Ekaterinburg, 620016, Russia.

The protection of the urban environment from radioactive wastes (including technologically enhanced natural radionuclides) and potentially harmful elements have recently become very critical. Thus, the present study aimed to assess the radioactive levels in low-volume samples of dust and fine sand fractions of the urban surface deposited sediments (USDS) collected in three Russian cities. The detection was conducted via CR-39 and LR-115 type II solid-state nuclear track detectors (SSNTDs) have been used to detect gross alpha activity concentrations. Read More

Benzimidazoazapurines: Design, Synthesis, and Photophysical Study.

J Org Chem 2021 Jun 7. Epub 2021 Jun 7.

Ural Federal University named after the first President of Russia B. N. Yeltsin, 19 Mira St., Yekaterinburg 620002, Russia.

A highly efficient approach to a new class of polycyclic 8-azapurines, benzo[4,5]imidazo[1,2-][1,2,3]triazolo[4,5-]pyrimidines (BITPs), with good photophysical characteristics is proposed. The approach comprises condensation of aminobenzimidazoles with 3-oxo-2-phenylazopropionitrile to form 3-(arylazo)benzo[4,5]imidazo[1,2-]pyrimidine-4-amines, which undergo oxidative cyclization by the catalytic action of copper(II) acetate, resulting in BITPs with 73-84% yield. Spectral investigations demonstrated the fluorescent properties of BITPs, exhibiting good quantum yields (up to 60%) with maxima absorption at 379-399 and emission at 471-505 nm. Read More

Bioactive Coatings with Ag-Camphorimine Complexes to Prevent Surface Colonization by the Pathogenic Yeast .

Antibiotics (Basel) 2021 May 26;10(6). Epub 2021 May 26.

Centro de Química Estrutural (CQE), Departamento de Engenharia Química, Instituto Superior Técnico, Universidade de Lisboa, Av. Rovisco Pais, 1049-001 Lisboa, Portugal.

Currently there is a gap between the rate of new antifungal development and the emergence of resistance among clinical strains, particularly threatened by the extreme adhesiveness of to indwelling medical devices. Two silver camphorimine complexes, [Ag(OH){OCHN(CH)NCHO}] (compound P) and [{Ag(OCHNCHCH-p)}(μ-O)] (compound Q), are herein demonstrated as having high inhibiting activity towards the growth of and clinical strains resistant to azoles, the frontline antifungals used in clinical practice. Compounds P and Q were also explored as bioactive coatings to prevent colonization by and colonize the surface of indwelling medical devices, resulting in persistent infections. Read More

A Family of Ethyl -Salicylideneglycinate Dyes Stabilized by Intramolecular Hydrogen Bonding: Photophysical Properties and Computational Study.

Molecules 2021 May 23;26(11). Epub 2021 May 23.

Institute of Chemistry, University of Tyumen, Volodarskogo Str. 6, 625003 Tyumen, Russia.

In this work we report solvatochromic and luminescent properties of ethyl -salicylideneglycinate (), ethyl -(5-methoxysalicylidene)glycinate (), ethyl -(5-bromosalicylidene)glycinate (), and ethyl -(5-nitrosalicylidene)glycinate () dyes. - correspond to a class of -salicylidene aniline derivatives, whose photophysical properties are dictated by the intramolecular proton transfer between the OH-function and the imine N-atom, affording tautomerization between the enol-imine and keto-enamine forms. Photophysical properties of - were studied in different pure non-polar and (a)protic polar solvents as well as upon gradual addition of NEt, NaOH, and CHSOH. Read More

Institute of Chemistry, University of Tyumen, Volodarskogo Str. 6, 625003 Tyumen, Russia.

In this work, we report solvent-induced complexation properties of a new NS tetradentate bis-thiosemicarbazone ligand (), prepared by the condensation of 4-phenylthiosemicarbazide with bis-aldehyde, namely 2,2'-(ethane-1,2-diylbis(oxy)dibenzaldehyde, towards nickel(II). Using ethanol as a reaction medium allowed the isolation of a discrete mononuclear homoleptic complex (), for which its crystal structure contains three independent molecules, namely , and , in the asymmetric unit. The doubly deprotonated ligand in the structure of is coordinated in a cis-manner through the azomethine nitrogen atoms and the thiocarbonyl sulfur atoms. Read More

Quantifying the Charge Carrier Interaction in Metallic Twisted Bilayer Graphene Superlattices.

Nanomaterials (Basel) 2021 May 15;11(5). Epub 2021 May 15.

M. N. Mikheev Institute of Metal Physics, Ural Branch, Russian Academy of Sciences, 18, S. Kovalevskoy St., 620108 Ekaterinburg, Russia.

The mechanism of charge carrier interaction in twisted bilayer graphene (TBG) remains an unresolved problem, where some researchers proposed the dominance of the electron-phonon interaction, while the others showed evidence for electron-electron or electron-magnon interactions. Here we propose to resolve this problem by generalizing the Bloch-Grüneisen equation and using it for the analysis of the temperature dependent resistivity in TBG. It is a well-established theoretical result that the Bloch-Grüneisen equation power-law exponent, p, exhibits exact integer values for certain mechanisms. Read More

Saint Petersburg State Institute of Technology (Technical University), 26 Moskovsky Ave, Saint Petersburg, 190013 Russia.

The reaction of 5-aryl--tetrazoles with adamantan-1-ol in concentrated sulfuric acid proceeds regioselectively with the formation of the corresponding 2-adamantyl-5-aryl-2-tetrazoles. Nitration of these compounds leads to 2-(adamantan-1-yl)-5-(3-nitroaryl)-2tetrazoles. The structures and composition of the obtained novel 2-adamantyl-5-aryltetrazoles were proven by IR spectroscopy, H and C NMR spectroscopy, high-resolution mass spectrometry, and also by X-ray structural analysis. The impact of memory effect on space fractional strong quantum couplers with tunable decay behavior and its numerical simulation.

Dean's Office of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, Ghent University, C. Heymanslaan 10, Ghent, 9000, Belgium.

The nontrivial behavior of wave packets in the space fractional coupled nonlinear Schrödinger equation has received considerable theoretical attention. The difficulty comes from the fact that the Riesz fractional derivative is inherently a prehistorical operator. In contrast, nonlinear Schrödinger equation with both time and space nonlocal operators, which is the cornerstone in the modeling of a new type of fractional quantum couplers, is still in high demand of attention.
