Potential Strategies to Increase Gynecologic Oncologist Treatment for Ovarian Cancer.

J Womens Health (Larchmt) 2021 Jun;30(6):769-781

ICF, Atlanta, Georgia, USA.

Evidence shows that treatment by gynecologic oncologists (GOs) increases overall survival among women with ovarian cancer. However, specific strategies for institutions and community-based public health programs to promote treatment by GOs are lacking. To address this, we conducted a literature review to identify evidence-based and promising system- and environmental-change strategies for increasing treatment by GOs, in effort to ensure that all women with ovarian cancer receive the standard of care. Robot-assisted arm therapy in neurological health conditions: rationale and methodology for the evidence synthesis in the CICERONE Italian Consensus Conference.

Eur J Phys Rehabil Med 2021 Jun 15. Epub 2021 Jun 15.

Department of Electrical and Information Engineering, Politecnico di Bari, Bari, Italy.

Background: Robot-assisted Arm Therapy (RAT) has been increasingly applied in the last years for promoting functional recovery in patients with disabilities related to neurological health conditions. Evidence of a knowledge-to-action gap for applying robot-assisted technologies in the rehabilitation of patients with neurological health conditions and the difficulty to apply and tailor the knowledge to the local contexts solicited the need for a national consensus conference on these interventions.

Aim: This paper aims to explain the methodology used by the working group dedicated to synthesize evidence on the effectiveness of RAT in neurological health conditions in the context of the CICERONE Italian Consensus Conference. Read More

The epigenetic regulator LSH maintains fork protection and genomic stability via MacroH2A deposition and RAD51 filament formation.

Nat Commun 2021 06 10;12(1):3520. Epub 2021 Jun 10.

Epigenetics Section, Mouse Cancer Genetics Program, National Cancer Institute, Frederick, MD, USA.

The Immunodeficiency Centromeric Instability Facial Anomalies (ICF) 4 syndrome is caused by mutations in LSH/HELLS, a chromatin remodeler promoting incorporation of histone variant macroH2A. Here, we demonstrate that LSH depletion results in degradation of nascent DNA at stalled replication forks and the generation of genomic instability. The protection of stalled forks is mediated by macroH2A, whose knockdown mimics LSH depletion and whose overexpression rescues nascent DNA degradation. Read More

Optimal time-dependent levels of weight-bearing for bone fracture healing under Ilizarov circular fixators.

J Mech Behav Biomed Mater 2021 May 28;121:104611. Epub 2021 May 28.

Department of Infrastructure Engineering, The University of Melbourne, Parkville, Australia. Electronic address:

It is known that weight-bearing exercises under Ilizarov circular fixators (ICF) could enhance bone fracture healing by mechano-regulation. However, interfragmentary movements at the fracture site induced by weight-bearing may inhibit angiogenesis and ultimately delay the healing process. To tackle this challenge, a computational model is presented in this study which considers the spatial and temporal changes in mechanical properties of fracture callus to predict optimal levels of weight-bearing during fracture healing under ICF. School of Public Administration, Zhejiang University of Finance and Economics, Hangzhou, China.

Through assignment method, the total score of disability in multiple dimensions is obtained, and it is divided into five functional states-severe disability, partial disability, moderate disability, mild disability, and health-according to the score, and the probability of death is constructed. Using the Chinese Longitudinal Healthy Longevity Survey (CLHLS) database tracking survey data, by constructing a multistate transition probability matrix, the empirical calculation of the multistate disability transfer probability, with the help of the sixth national census data, we estimated maintenance time of each state, life expectancy, etc. The results show that the 3 year transfer probability of the initial healthy elderly is the highest, and the mortality rate is also the lowest. Novel Target Designs to Mitigate Hydrodynamic Instabilities Growth in Inertial Confinement Fusion.

Xiumei Qiao Ke Lan

Phys Rev Lett 2021 May;126(18):185001

Institute of Applied Physics and Computational Mathematics, Beijing 100094, China.

High density carbon (HDC) ablator is one of the promising candidates toward thermonuclear ignition in inertial confinement fusion (ICF), but it shows the largest ablation front instability growth as compared to other traditional ablator materials. In this Letter, we propose a novel HDC-CH capsule design, opening the way to mitigate the hydrodynamic instabilities by using CH as the outermost ablator layer, while keeping HDC as the main ablator for maintaining the advantage of short laser pulses. The CH layer is completely ablated during the shock transit phase. Read More
