Prelabour rupture of membranes (PROM) exposes both foetuses and mothers to the risk of infection. Induction of labour has been proposed to reduce this risk, but its neonatal and maternal risks and benefits must be balanced against those of expectant management (EM). Recent randomized studies of preterm PROM show that EM until 37 weeks of gestation is associated with lower overall neonatal morbidity. Read More
