Pak J Biol Sci 2021 Jan;24(2):292-296

Background And Objective: Contraceptive pills are chemical substances used as a means to prevent pregnancy, but they have several effects, including high lipid profile and in many cases, patients with heart and blood diseases cannot use it as a contraceptive helps in increasing the risk of cardiovascular diseases (CVD). A Stevia extract with high sweetening capacity due to its content of glycosides is used to reduce lipid profile and this study aimed to decrease lipid profile levels and lowering the risk factor in women using contraceptive drugs by stevia extracts.

Materials And Methods: Sixteen rabbits have been used as a case-control study design due to their anatomical and physiological similarity to humans. Read More

Sex hormone replacement in ovarian failure - new treatment concepts.

Best Pract Res Clin Endocrinol Metab 2015 Jan 2;29(1):105-14. Epub 2014 Oct 2.

MRC Centre for Reproductive Health, University of Edinburgh, Edinburgh EH16 4TJ, United Kingdom. Electronic address:

Premature ovarian failure is associated with decreased bone mass and fractures, and an increased risk of premature death from cardiovascular disease. There is also fertility compromise associated not only with the loss of ovarian function but, in those with pre-pubertal POF, inadequate uterine morphology. A wide variety of hormone replacement regimes are reported, but there is no clear evidence of best practice. Read More

The impact of using the combined oral contraceptive pill for cycle scheduling on gene expression related to endometrial receptivity.

Hum Reprod 2014 Jun 4;29(6):1271-8. Epub 2014 Apr 4.

Instituto Valenciano de Infertilidad, Av. Del Talgo 68 (28023), Madrid, Spain.

Study Question: Does the combined oral contraceptive pill (COCP) change endometrial gene expression when used for cycle programming?

Summary Answer: COCP used for scheduling purposes does not have a significant impact on endometrial gene expression related to endometrial receptivity.

What Is Known Already: Controversy exists around COCP pretreatment for IVF cycle programming, as some authors claim that it might be detrimental to the live birth rate. Microarray technology applied to the study of tissue gene expression has previously revealed the behavior of genes related to endometrial receptivity under different conditions. Read More

Markers of platelet activation, thrombin generation and fibrinolysis in women with sickle cell disease: effects of differing forms of hormonal contraception.

Eur J Haematol 2003 May;70(5):310-4

Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Royal Free Hospital and University College Medical School, Royal Free Campus, Pond Street, London, UK.

Objective: To examine laboratory markers of platelet activation, thrombin generation and fibrinolysis in women with sickle cell disease (SCD) using the combined oral contraceptive pill (COCP), progestogen only (PO) contraception and non-hormonal contraception.

Design: A prospective observational study set in two teaching hospitals in the London region.

Method: Forty-four women with SCD in steady haematological state using differing hormonal contraception were recruited and venesection was performed at standardised times for the measurements of markers of platelet activation, thrombin generation and fibrinolysis. Read More
