Sports compression garments improve resting markers of venous return and muscle blood flow in male basketball players.

J Sport Health Sci 2021 Jul 24. Epub 2021 Jul 24.

Institute for Health and Sport (iHeS), Victoria University, Footscray, VIC 3011, Australia; Department of Physiology, Australian Institute of Sport, Bruce, ACT 2617, Australia.

Background: The benefits associated with sports compression garments are thought to be closely related to enhanced blood flow. However, findings are equivocal, possibly due to heterogeneity in techniques used for measuring blood flow, garment types used, and pressures applied. This study combined Doppler ultrasound and near-infrared spectroscopy technologies to provide the first comprehensive assessment of the effects of three sports compression garment types on markers of venous return and muscle blood flow at rest. Objective: Aldosterone overproduction and lipid metabolic disturbances between idiopathic hyperaldosteronism (IHA) and unilateral aldosterone-producing adenoma (APA) have been inconsistently linked in patients with primary aldosteronism. Moreover, KCNJ5 mutations are prevalent among APAs and enhance aldosterone synthesis in adrenal cortex. We aimed to investigate the prevalence of metabolic syndrome (MetS) in each primary aldosteronism subtype and observe the role of KCNJ5 mutations among APAs on the distribution of abdominal adipose tissues quantified using computed tomography (CT), including their changes postadrenalectomy. In view of the limitation of scale on the spatial structure of ground objects and the problem that traditional watershed segmentation tends to produce crown over-segmentation, we proposed a segmentation method of crown based on the optimized watershed with multi-scale markers, with the base in Mingyue Village of Changsha County as the research object. Firstly, the high-resolution unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) was used to collect images. The image features were analyzed to construct the classification system of , and the distribution area of was extracted. Read More

Joint Replacement Center, Eunpyeong St. Mary's Hospital, Seoul, 03312, Republic of Korea.

Purpose: Kinematically aligned total knee arthroplasty (KA TKA) targets restoration of patient-specific alignment and soft tissue laxity. However, whether KA TKA reproduces native soft tissue strain remains unclear. This cadaveric study tested the hypothesis that KA TKA would better restore the quantitative strain and strain distribution of medial collateral ligament (MCL) to the native healthy knee compared to mechanically aligned (MA) TKA. CAS Key Laboratory of Tropical Forest Ecology, Xishuangbanna Tropical Botanical Garden, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Menglun, Mengla 666303,Yunnan, China.

Differences in traits between lianas and trees in tropical forests have been studied extensively; however, few have compared the ecological strategies of lianas from different habitats. Here, we measured 25 leaf and stem traits concerning leaf anatomy, morphology, physiology, and stem hydraulics for 17 liana species from a tropical seasonal rainforest and 19 liana species from a valley savanna in Southwest China. We found that savanna lianas had higher vessel density, wood density, and lower hydraulically weighted vessel diameter and theoretical hydraulic conductivity than tropical seasonal rainforest lianas. Evaluating the performance of fine bubble diffused aeration systems in cylindrical aeration tanks by fuzzy c-means algorithm.

Water Sci Technol 2021 Jul;84(2):404-419

Wuhan Municipal Engineering Design and Research Institute, Changqing Road 40, Jianghan District, Wuhan 430015, China.

In order to make a comprehensive evaluation of the performance of fine bubble diffused aeration systems in cylindrical aeration tanks, the following parameters are considered: distribution of DO concentration in the horizontal direction of the different water depth of an aeration tank, distribution of DO concentration in the vertical direction of the aeration tank, distribution of DO concentration in all the points of the aeration tank and ratio of total mass increment of DO in the aeration tank to total mass of oxygen in aeration air. The aeration characteristic criterion (ACC) is proposed to synthesize these parameters, and weighted sums of the similarity degrees derived from the extensions of fuzzy c-means (FCM) are used to construct ACC. The results show that compared with total volumetric oxygen transfer coefficient (Kα) and specific standard oxygen transfer efficiency (SSOTE), ACC is demonstrated to be more marked and sensitive for the performance evaluation of the fine bubble diffused aeration systems equipped with fine-pore aeration tubes. Exploring the contribution of charged species at the outer surface to the ion current signal of nanopores: a theoretical study.

State Key Laboratory of Biogeology and Environmental Geology, Engineering Research Center of Nano-Geomaterials of Ministry of Education, Faculty of Materials Science and Chemistry, China University of Geosciences, Wuhan, P. R. China.

Nanopores attached to charged species realize the artificial regulation of ion transport by the electrostatic effect in nanoconfines, produce a sensitive ion current signal and play a critical role in nanopore-based analyses. However, until now, the contribution of the charged species at the outer surface, an inherent component of nanopores, to the ion current signal has not yet been fully investigated. Here, we theoretically investigate the contribution of the charged species at the outer surface to the ion current signal of a conical nanopore. Read More
