Reversible multilayered vesicle-like structures with fluid hydrophobic and interpolyelectrolyte layers.

J Colloid Interface Sci 2021 Apr 20;599:313-325. Epub 2021 Apr 20.

Department of Physical and Macromolecular Chemistry, Faculty of Science, Charles University, Hlavova 8, 128 00 Prague 2, Czech Republic. Electronic address:

Hydrophobic blocks of amphiphilic block copolymers often form glassy micellar cores at room temperature with a rigid structure that limits their applications as nanocapsules for targeted delivery. Nevertheless, we prepared and analyzed core/shell micelles with a soft core, formed by a self-assembled block copolymer consisting of a hydrophobic block and a polycation block, poly(lauryl acrylate)-block-poly(trimethyl-aminoethyl acrylate) (PLA-QPDMAEA), in aqueous solution. By light and small-angle neutron scattering, by transmission electron microscopy and by fluorescence spectroscopy, we showed that these core/shell micelles are spherical and cylindrical with a fluid-like PLA core and a positively charged outer shell and that they can encapsulate and release hydrophobic solutes. Obscure Involvement of MYC in Neurodegenerative Diseases and Neuronal Repair.

Mol Neurobiol 2021 May 5. Epub 2021 May 5.

Faculty of Special Education and Rehabilitation, University of Belgrade, Visokog Stevana 2, 11000, Belgrade, Serbia.

MYC is well known as a potent oncogene involved in regulating cell cycle and metabolism. Augmented MYC expression leads to cell cycle dysregulation, intense cell proliferation, and carcinogenesis. Surprisingly, its increased expression in neurons does not induce their proliferation, but leads to neuronal cell death and consequent development of a neurodegenerative phenotype. Read More

Distinct Elements Confer the Blocking and Bypass Functions of the Bithorax Fab-8 Boundary.

Genetics 2019 Nov;213(3):865-876

Department of Molecular Biology, Princeton University, New Jersey 08544.

Boundaries in the Drosophila bithorax complex (BX-C) enable the regulatory domains that drive parasegment-specific expression of the three Hox genes to function autonomously. The four regulatory domains (iab-5, iab-6, iab-7, and iab-8) that control the expression of the Abdominal-B (Abd-B) gene are located downstream of the transcription unit, and are delimited by the Mcp, Fab-6, Fab-7, and Fab-8 boundaries. These boundaries function to block cross talk between neighboring regulatory domains. Read More

Downsizing of Block Polymer-Templated Nanopores to One Nanometer via Hyper-Cross-Linking of High χ-Low Precursors.

ACS Nano 2021 May 5. Epub 2021 May 5.

Department of Chemistry, KAIST, Daejeon 34141, Korea.

Synthesizing nanoporous polymer from the block polymer template by selective removal of the sacrificial domain offers straightforward pore size control as a function of the degree of polymerization (). Downscaling pore size into the microporous regime (<2 nm) has been thermodynamically challenging, because the low drives the system to disorder and the small-sized pore is prone to collapse. Herein, we report that maximizing cross-linking density of a block polymer precursor with an increased interaction parameter (χ) can help successfully stabilize the structure bearing pore sizes of 1.
