Epilepsy Res 2021 May 27;175:106677. Epub 2021 May 27.

Mercer University, College of Pharmacy, Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences, 3001 Mercer University Drive, Atlanta, GA, 30341, USA. Electronic address:

Recent preclinical and clinical studies suggest that lorcaserin, a preferential serotonin 2C receptor (5-HTR) agonist that was approved for the treatment of obesity, possesses antiepileptic properties. Here, we tested whether lorcaserin (1, 3, 5.6, 10 mg/kg) is prophylactic against audiogenic seizures (AGSs) in juvenile Fmr1 knockout mice, a mouse model of fragile X syndrome (FXS). Read More

Department of Biochemistry and Biotechnology, Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, University Rovira i Virgili (URV), Reus, Spain; Institute of Health Pere Virgili, IISPV, University Hospital Sant Joan, Reus, Spain; Consorcio CIBER, M.P. Fisiopatología de la Obesidad y Nutrición (CIBEROBN), Instituto de Salud Carlos III, Madrid, Spain. Electronic address:

Background & Aims: The Mediterranean Diet (MedDiet) may decrease the cardiometabolic risk through modulation of metabolic pathways. Furthermore, the interplay between MedDiet, metabolites and microbial metabolism may improve our understanding on the metabolic effects of this diet. We aimed to evaluate the effect of the MedDiet compared to nuts supplementation on circulating metabolites and their relationship with cardiometabolic health. Read More

Long noncoding RNA taurine-up regulated gene 1 for the prognosis of osteosarcoma: A protocol for meta-analysis and bioinformatics analysis.

Medicine (Baltimore) 2021 Jun;100(24):e26182

Department of Orthopedics and Soft Surgery, Gansu Cancer Hospital, Lanzhou, Gansu Province, China.

Background: In recent years, a variety of long noncoding RNA (lncRNA) has been confirmed to be involved in the initiation and progression of osteosarcoma. Taurine-up regulated gene 1 (TUG1) plays an important role in the formation, invasion, and metastasis of osteosarcoma. Therefore, perhaps TUG1 is a potential biomarker for the prognosis of patients suffering from osteosarcoma. Read More

Synthesis of L-[5-11C]Leucine and L-alfa-[5-11C]Methylleucine via Pd0-mediated 11C-Methylation and Microfluidic Hydrogenation: Potentiality of Leucine PET Probes for Tumor Imaging.

ChemMedChem 2021 Jun 14. Epub 2021 Jun 14.

RIKEN Kobe Institute, Center for Biosystems Dynamics Research, 6-7-3 Minatojima-minamimachi, Chuo-ku, 650-0047, Kobe, JAPAN.

The efficient synthesis of L-[5-11C]leucine and L-alfa-[5-11C]methylleucine has been investigated using a continuous two-step sequence of rapid reactions consisting of Pd0-mediated 11C-methylation and microfluidic hydrogenation. The synthesis of L-[5-11C]leucine and L-alfa-[5-11C]methylleucine was accomplished within 40 min with a decay-corrected radiochemical yield of 15-38% based on [11C]CH3I, radiochemical purity of 95-99%, and chemical purity of 95-99%. The Pd impurities in the injectable solution measured using inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry met the international criteria for human use. Read More

Generation of High-Quality Pharmacokinetic Data from Parallel Tail Vein Dosing and Bleeding in Non-cannulated Rats.

J Pharm Sci 2021 Jun 11. Epub 2021 Jun 11.

DMPK, Research and Early Development, Oncology R&D, AstraZeneca, Boston, US. Electronic address:

It is common practice to use cannulated rats for pharmacokinetic (PK) in-life studies as it yields high quality PK parameter estimation. While offering many benefits, cannulation requires surgery, post-surgical care, and cannula maintenance. As an alternative approach, the strategy of dosing and bleeding rats via the tail vein in a single experiment is technically feasible and theoretically offers many benefits. Read More
