Plausible Emergence and Self Assembly of a Primitive Phospholipid from Reduced Phosphorus on the Primordial Earth.

Orig Life Evol Biosph 2021 Jul 19. Epub 2021 Jul 19.

Instituto de Astrobiología de Colombia, Bogotá, Colombia.

How life arose on the primitive Earth is one of the biggest questions in science. Biomolecular emergence scenarios have proliferated in the literature but accounting for the ubiquity of oxidized (+ 5) phosphate (PO) in extant biochemistries has been challenging due to the dearth of phosphate and molecular oxygen on the primordial Earth. A compelling body of work suggests that exogenous schreibersite ((Fe,Ni)P) was delivered to Earth via meteorite impacts during the Heavy Bombardment (ca. Read More

A systematic investigation of zircon U-Pb dating, whole-rock geochemistry, Sm-Nd isotopes and zircon Hf-O isotopes for these mafic rocks reveals their petrogenesis and the mantle composition as well as a new window to reconstruct lithospheric evolution in interior South China Block during Late Mesozoic. Zircon U-Pb dating yielded ages of 131 ± 2 Ma to 136 ± 2 Ma for diabase and gabbro from Baotan area, indicating the first data for Early Cretaceous mafic magmatism in the western Qing-Hang belt. Division of Gastroenterology, Department of Internal Medicine, Michigan State University at Hurley Medical Center, Flint, MI, USA.

Hepatic sarcoidosis is an exceedingly rare extrapulmonary manifestation of sarcoidosis, with the majority remaining stable for years without clinical clues, only displaying biochemical abnormalities. Amongst the literature, the timeline to cirrhosis has not been parsed out; hepatomegaly develops in 50% and cirrhosis in 33% of all hepatic sarcoidosis patients, making this an essential issue in this patient population. Interestingly, the risk for hepatocellular carcinoma remains high regardless of cirrhosis development. Read More

Introduction: Current mortality predictive tools, in the setting of completed or impending pathologic fractures, are nonspecific. Clinical decision making and mortality prediction in research would benefit from creation of a high-fidelity scoring system for calculating the risk of 30-day postoperative mortality. The purpose of this study is to develop a validated research and clinical tool that is superior to existing methods in estimating postoperative mortality risk after fixation of pathologic fractures. Oxidized sulfur-rich arc magmas formed porphyry Cu deposits by 1.88 Ga.

Nat Commun 2021 Apr 13;12(1):2189. Epub 2021 Apr 13.

Canadian Centre for Isotopic Microanalysis, University of Alberta, Edmonton, AB, Canada.

Most known porphyry Cu deposits formed in the Phanerozoic and are exclusively associated with moderately oxidized, sulfur-rich, hydrous arc-related magmas derived from partial melting of the asthenospheric mantle metasomatized by slab-derived fluids. Yet, whether similar metallogenic processes also operated in the Precambrian remains obscure. Here we address the issue by investigating the origin, fO, and S contents of calc-alkaline plutonic rocks associated with the Haib porphyry Cu deposit in the Paleoproterozoic Richtersveld Magmatic Arc (southern Namibia), an interpreted mature island-arc setting.
