Eur J Vasc Endovasc Surg 2019 Feb 7. Epub 2019 Feb 7.

Department for Vascular and Endovascular Surgery, Klinikum rechts der Isar der Technischen Universität München, Munich, Germany. Electronic address:

Objective: Hospital incidence, treatment modality, and in hospital mortality after surgery are reported for thoraco-abdominal aortic aneurysms (TAAAs) treated by endovascular or open means in Germany from 2005 to 2014.

Methods: Data were extracted from diagnosis related group statistics from the German Federal Statistical Office. All inpatient cases with a diagnosis of ruptured and non-ruptured TAAA (ICD-10 I71. Read More

Multicentre Post-EVAR Surveillance Evaluation Study (EVAR-SCREEN).

Eur J Vasc Endovasc Surg 2019 Feb 6. Epub 2019 Feb 6.

St George's Vascular Institute, St George's University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, London, UK.

Objective: Surveillance imaging is considered mandatory after endovascular aneurysm repair (EVAR), but many patients are lost to follow up and the impact of this is poorly understood. This study aimed to examine compliance with post-operative surveillance in the UK and the impact of mal-/non-compliance on endograft re-interventions and survival.

Methods: EVAR-SCREEN centres reported EVAR for intact infrarenal abdominal aortic aneurysms (AAA) from 1 January 2007 to 31 December 2010, with follow up included up to 31 July 2014. Read More

Pre-Operative Masseter Area is an Independent Predictor of Long-Term Survival after Carotid Endarterectomy.

Eur J Vasc Endovasc Surg 2018 Dec 21. Epub 2018 Dec 21.

Faculty of Medicine and Life Sciences, University of Tampere, Tampere, Finland; Finnish Cardiovascular Research Centre, Tampere, Finland; Department of Cardiology, Tays Heart Hospital, Tampere, Finland.

Objective/background: Sarcopenia is a predictor of mortality in elderly patients. Masseter area (MA) reflects sarcopenia in trauma patients. It was hypothesised that MA and Masseter density (MD) could be evaluated reliably from pre-operative computed tomography angiography (CTA) scans and that they predict post-operative survival in carotid endarterectomy (CEA) patients. The Relationship Between Aortic Aneurysm Surgery Volume and Peri-Operative Mortality in Australia.

Eur J Vasc Endovasc Surg 2018 Oct 24. Epub 2018 Oct 24.

Department of Vascular Surgery, Prince of Wales Hospital, Sydney, Australia; Faculty of Medicine, University of New South Wales, Sydney, Australia; The Vascular Institute, Prince of Wales Hospital, Sydney, Australia. Electronic address:

Objectives: Operative caseload is thought to be associated with peri-operative mortality following intact aortic aneurysm repair. The aim was to study that association in the Australian setting, which has a unique healthcare provision system and geographical population distribution.

Methods: The Australasian Vascular Audit database was used to capture volume measurements for both individual surgeon and hospital and to separate it into quintiles (1, lowest, to 5, highest) for endovascular (EVAR), open surgical repair (OSR), and subgroups of repair types between 2010 and 2016. Short Stay EVAR is Safe and Cost Effective.

Eur J Vasc Endovasc Surg 2018 Nov 12. Epub 2018 Nov 12.

St George's Vascular Institute, St George's Hospital, London, UK.

Introduction: Reducing length of stay (LOS) following surgery offers the potential to improve resource utilisation. Endovascular aneurysm repair (EVAR) is now delivered with a low level of morbidity and as such may be deliverable as a "23 hour stay" intervention. This systematic review aims to assess the safety and feasibility of a short stay EVAR pathway. Read More

Objective: Stent placements are considered as a treatment for post-thrombotic syndrome (PTS) with iliofemoral obstruction, but the application of these iliofemoral venous stents has also caused a lot of controversy. The purpose of this systematic review and meta-analysis was to summarise the efficacy and safety of venous stents in PTS with obstruction in iliofemoral venous segments.
