The impact of type of dietary protein, animal versus vegetable, in modifying cardiometabolic risk factors: A position paper from the International Lipid Expert Panel (ILEP).

Clin Nutr 2020 May 26. Epub 2020 May 26.

Department of Hypertension, Chair of Nephrology and Hypertension, Medical University of Lodz, Poland; Polish Mother's Memorial Hospital Research Institute (PMMHRI), Lodz, Poland; Cardiovascular Research Centre, University of Zielona Gora, Zielona Gora, Poland. Electronic address:

Proteins play a crucial role in metabolism, in maintaining fluid and acid-base balance and antibody synthesis. Dietary proteins are important nutrients and are classified into: 1) animal proteins (meat, fish, poultry, eggs and dairy), and, 2) plant proteins (legumes, nuts and soy). Dietary modification is one of the most important lifestyle changes that has been shown to significantly decrease the risk of cardiovascular (CV) disease (CVD) by attenuating related risk factors. A cost minimization analysis of α2b-interferon supplementation in complex pharmacotherapy of rotavirus infection in newborns.

Ceska Slov Farm 2020 ;69(2):83-89

Rotavirus is one of the most important causative agents of gastroenteritis in both infants and children worldwide, resulting in high mortality and morbidity, mainly in low-income, developing countries. Respective analysis of medical records of newborns hospitalized with acute gastroenteritis showed that the use of α2b-interferon in complex pharmacotherapy was characterized by faster reverse development of clinical manifestations of the disease than in patients who did not receive interferon. In our study, we also aimed to estimate the effectiveness of α2b-interferon supplementation in combination pharmacotherapy of newborns with suspected rotavirus infection. Read More

The influence of «Saprogel» in the wound healing process on rats with a full-thickness wound model.

Ceska Slov Farm 2020 ;69(2):75-82

The article presents the study results of the effectiveness and the mechanism of the «Saprogel» action on the wound healing process and pro-/antioxidant equilibrium in serum of rats with a full-thickness wound model. The wound healing effect of tested gel samples was evaluated by the dynamics of area change (S) and the percentage reduction of the area (PRA) of wounds on the 3rd, 7th, and 14th days of the treatment. The content of lipid peroxide oxidation (LPO) products and the activity of antioxidant protection enzymes in the serum of rats were determined in the dynamics in different phases of the wound healing process in rats. Development and uniformity evaluation of low-dose medicated chewing gums prepared by compression method.

Ceska Slov Farm 2020 ;69(1):33-42

Because of a low content of active ingredients, it was essential to choose the way of adding them to the tableting mass and evaluate their distribution homogeneity in the dosage units. The blends for compression were prepared by two methods: the first one was simple mixing of all components; the second one included the step of wet granulation of a three-component mixture - LH, sucralose and a taste additive. Pharmacokinetic aspects of beta-lactam antibiotic therapy in intensive care unit patients: A one-center experience with TDM.

Ceska Slov Farm 2020 ;69(1):17-23

Early and appropriate antibiotic therapy remains the key intervention for successful treatment of infection in critically ill patients, particularly in the current era of increasing antibiotic resistance. Optimization of the antimicrobial dosing regimens to achieve therapeutic plasma concentrations and concentrations at the site of infection is crucial for maximizing the therapeutic response and minimizing the risk of organ toxicity and is also an important tool to avoid the resistance emergence. Beta-lactam antibiotics have been considered relatively safe and, as opposed to aminoglycosides, therapeutic drug monitoring as a tool conventionally used primarily to minimize toxicity in drugs with narrow therapeutic window or complex pharmacokinetics, has not been provided routinely yet. Immunoglobulin E (IgE) plays a central role in the allergic response, in which cross-linking of allergen by FcεRI-bound IgE triggers mast cell and basophil degranulation and the release of inflammatory mediators. The high-affinity interaction between IgE and FcεRI is a long-standing target for therapeutic intervention in allergic disease. Omalizumab is a clinically approved anti-IgE monoclonal antibody that binds to free IgE, also with high affinity, preventing its interaction with FcεRI. Read More

Statin therapy in athletes and patients performing regular intense exercise - Position paper from the International Lipid Expert Panel (ILEP).

Pharmacol Res 2020 05 19;155:104719. Epub 2020 Feb 19.

Department of Hypertension, Chair of Nephrology and Hypertension, Medical University of Lodz, Lodz, Poland; Polish Mother's Memorial Hospital Research Institute (PMMHRI), Lodz, Poland; Cardiovascular Research Centre, University of Zielona Gora, Zielona Gora, Poland. Electronic address:

Acute and chronic physical exercises may enhance the development of statin-related myopathy. In this context, the recent (2019) guidelines of the European Society of Cardiology (ESC) and the European Atherosclerosis Society (EAS) for the management of dyslipidemias recommend that, although individuals with dyslipidemia should be advised to engage in regular moderate physical exercise (for at least 30 min daily), physicians should be alerted with regard to myopathy and creatine kinase (CK) elevation in statin-treated sport athletes. However it is worth emphasizing that abovementioned guidelines, previous and recent ESC/EAS consensus papers on adverse effects of statin therapy as well as other previous attempts on this issue, including the ones from the International Lipid Expert Panel (ILEP), give only general recommendations on how to manage patients requiring statin therapy on regular exercises.
