Tunable spin-state bistability in a spin crossover molecular complex.

J Phys Condens Matter 2019 Apr 17. Epub 2019 Apr 17.

Department of Physics and Astronomy and Center for Materials Research and Analysis, University of Nebraska- Lincoln, Jorgensen Hall, 855 North 16th Str., NE 68588-0299, Lincoln, 68588-0299, UNITED STATES.

The spin crossover (SCO) transitions at both the surface and over the entire volume of the [Fe{H2B(pz)2}2(bipy)] polycrystalline films on Al2O3 substrates have been studied, where pz = pyrazol-1-yl and bipy = 2,2'-bipyridine. For [Fe{H2B(pz)2}2(bipy)] films of hundreds of nm thick, magnetometry and x-ray absorption spectroscopy measurements show thermal hysteresis in the SCO transition with temperature, although the transition in bulk [Fe{H2B(pz)2}2(bipy)] occurs in a non-hysteretic fashion at 157 K. While the size of the crystallites in those films are similar, the hysteresis becomes more prominent in thinner films, indicating a significant effect of the [Fe{H2B(pz)2}2(bipy)]/Al2O3 interface. Dynamic properties of asymmetric double Josephson junction stack with quasiparticle imbalance.

Nanotechnology 2019 Apr 17. Epub 2019 Apr 17.

Institute of Nuclear Physics, M V Lomonosov Moscow State University, 1/2 Leninskie Gory, Moscow 119992, RUSSIA,, Moscow, 119991, RUSSIAN FEDERATION.

We study analytically and numerically the influence of the quasiparticle charge imbalance on the dynamics of the asymmetric Josephson stack formed by two inequivalent junctions: the fast capacitive junction JJ1 and slow non-capacitive junction JJ2. We find, that the switching of the fast junction into resistive state leads to significant increase of the effective critical current of the slow junction. At the same time, the initial switching of the slow junction may either increase or decrease the effective critical current of the fast junction, depending on ratio of their resistances and the value of the capacitance. Time-restricted release of multiple neurotrophic factors promotes axonal regeneration and functional recovery after peripheral nerve injury.

FASEB J 2019 Apr 17:fj201802065RR. Epub 2019 Apr 17.

Department of Orthopaedics, Xijing Hospital, The Fourth Military Medical University, Xi'an, China.

Delivery of multiple neurotrophic factors (NTFs), especially with time-restricted release kinetics, holds great potential for nerve repair. In this study, we utilized the tetracycline-regulatable Tet-On 3G system to control the expression of c-Jun, which is a common regulator of multiple NTFs in Schwann cells (SCs). , Tet-On/c-Jun-modified SCs showed a tightly controllable secretion of multiple NTFs, including glial cell line-derived NTF, nerve growth factor, brain-derived NTF, and artemin, by the addition or removal of doxycycline (Dox). Evolutionary Trajectories for the Functional Diversification of Anthracycline Methyltransferases.

ACS Chem Biol 2019 Apr 17. Epub 2019 Apr 17.

Microbial natural products are an important source of chemical entities for drug discovery. Recent advances in understanding the biosynthesis of secondary metabolites has revealed how this rich chemical diversity is generated through functional differentiation of biosynthetic enzymes. For instance, investigations into anthracycline anti-cancer agents have uncovered distinct S-adenosyl methionine (SAM) - dependent proteins: DnrK is a 4-O-methyltransferase involved in daunorubicin biosynthesis, whereas RdmB (52% sequence identity) from the rhodomycin pathway catalyzes 10-hydroxylation. TIPE2 as a potential therapeutic target in chronic viral hepatitis.

Expert Opin Ther Targets 2019 Apr 17. Epub 2019 Apr 17.

a Department of Hepatology , Qilu Hospital of Shandong University , Jinan , China.

Introduction: Tumor necrosis factor-α-induced protein-8 like-2 (TIPE2) is a novel negative regulator of innate and adaptive immune responses by binding to caspase-8. The binding of TIPE2 and caspase-8 can inhibit the activity of activating protein-1(AP-1) and nuclear factor-κB (NF-κB), ultimately promoting Fas-induced apoptosis in immune cells. Therefore, TIPE2-caspase-8-NF-κB signaling might serve as a biomarker and a potential target for therapeutic intervention. Read More

AMPK-mediated activation of Akt protects renal tubular cells from stress-induced apoptosis and ameliorates ischemic AKI .

Am J Physiol Renal Physiol 2019 Apr 17. Epub 2019 Apr 17.

Medicine / Nephroloy, University of Illinois, Chicago, United States.

We have reported that preconditioning renal tubular cells (RTCs) with A-769662 (a pharmacologic activator of AMPK) reduces apoptosis of RTCs induced by subsequent stress, and ameliorates the severity of ischemic AKI in mice. In this study we examined the role of the PI3K/Akt pathway in mediating these effects. To confirm that any observed novel effects of A-769662 are mediated specifically by AMPK, we developed knockdown ("KD") RTCs using shRNA. Read More
