Flame Retardancy Properties and Physicochemical Characteristics of Polyurea-Based Coatings Containing Flame Retardants Based on Aluminum Hydroxide, Resorcinol Bis(Diphenyl Phosphate), and Tris Chloropropyl Phosphate.

Materials (Basel) 2021 Sep 9;14(18). Epub 2021 Sep 9.

Faculty of Chemistry, Adam Mickiewicz University, Uniwersytetu Poznańskiego 8, 61-614 Poznań, Poland.

Polyurea is a synthetic material made by the reaction of isocyanate and polymer blend-containing amines. Due to its outstanding mechanical properties and fast curing, polyurea-based coatings have found dozens of applications, including waterproofing and anti-corrosion coatings. Further development of this material can create a flame-retardant product, a good alternative for common products available on the market, such as intumescent coatings. Read More

Corrosion Inhibitor-Modified Plasma Electrolytic Oxidation Coatings on 6061 Aluminum Alloy.

Materials (Basel) 2021 Jan 29;14(3). Epub 2021 Jan 29.

Faculty of Chemistry, Silesian University of Technology, B. Krzywoustego Street 6, 44-100 Gliwice, Poland.

There are many methods for incorporating organic corrosion inhibitors to oxide coatings formed on aluminum alloys. However, typically they require relatively concentrated solutions of inhibitors, possibly generating a problematic waste and/or are time-/energy-consuming (elevated temperature is usually needed). The authors propose a three-step method of oxide layer formation on 6061-T651 aluminum alloy (AAs) via alternating current (AC) plasma electrolytic oxidation (PEO), impregnation with an 8-hydroxyquinoline (8-HQ) solution, and final sealing by an additional direct current (DC) polarization in the original PEO electrolyte. Preparation and Characterization of Ethylenediamine-Polyurea Microcapsule Epoxy Self-Healing Coating.

Materials (Basel) 2020 Jan 10;13(2). Epub 2020 Jan 10.

Division of Advanced Nano-Materials and Division of Nanobionic Research, Suzhou Institute of Nano-Tech and Nano-Bionics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Suzhou 215123, China.

Polyurea microcapsules with Ethylenediamine (EDA) as the core material were synthesized. A set of characterization methods, including optical and scanning electron microscopy (OM and SEM), the Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) were used to confirm the microcapsule morphology and chemical structures. The influence of emulsifier content and stirring rate on size and morphology of the microcapsules was investigated, and the self-healing performance of EDA-Polyurea microcapsule/epoxy coatings was evaluated by electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) measurements. Construction of a Novel Lignin-Based Quaternary Ammonium Material with Excellent Corrosion Resistant Behavior and Its Application for Corrosion Protection.

Materials (Basel) 2019 May 31;12(11). Epub 2019 May 31.

State Key Laboratory of Biobased Material and Green Papermaking, Key Laboratory of Pulp & Paper Science and Technology of Shandong Province/Ministry of Education, Shandong Academy of Sciences, Qilu University of Technology, Jinan 250353, China.

A novel lignin-based quaternary ammonium material (lignin-DMC) with excellent corrosion resistant behavior was synthesized by grafting DMC (methacrylatoethyl trimethyl ammonium chloride) onto kraft lignin. The structure and anti-corrosion performance of lignin-DMC was investigated using many methods, for instance the scanning electron microscope (SEM), atomic force microscopy (AFM), charge density analysis, molecular weight analysis, electrochemical methods. Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) confirmed the formation of the lignin-DMC. Read More

Investigation the Corrosion Inhibition Effect of Itraconazole on Copper in H₂SO₄ at Different Temperatures: Combining Experimental and Theoretical Studies.

Materials (Basel) 2018 Oct 26;11(11). Epub 2018 Oct 26.

School of Urban Construction and Environmental Engineering, Chongqing University, Chongqing 400044, China.

The anti-corrosion inhibition effect of itraconazole on copper (Cu) in 0.5 M H₂SO₄ is observed with variety of experimental methods, including electrochemical measurement, surface morphology analysis, and theoretical calculations. These experimental results all confirm that itraconazole exhibits excellent anti-corrosion performance in the certain temperatures range (298 K⁻313 K) for copper in sulfuric acid solution. Read More

Functional Coatings or Films for Hard-Tissue Applications.

Materials (Basel) 2010 Jul 9;3(7):3994-4050. Epub 2010 Jul 9.

Biomaterials and Tissue Engineering Research Unit, School of AMME, The University of Sydney, Sydney 2006, Australia.

Metallic biomaterials like stainless steel, Co-based alloy, Ti and its alloys are widely used as artificial hip joints, bone plates and dental implants due to their excellent mechanical properties and endurance. However, there are some surface-originated problems associated with the metallic implants: corrosion and wear in biological environments resulting in ions release and formation of wear debris; poor implant fixation resulting from lack of osteoconductivity and osteoinductivity; implant-associated infections due to the bacterial adhesion and colonization at the implantation site. For overcoming these surface-originated problems, a variety of surface modification techniques have been used on metallic implants, including chemical treatments, physical methods and biological methods.
