The characterization and methane adsorption of Ag-, Cu-, Fe-, and H-exchanged chabazite-rich tuff from Turkey.

Environ Sci Pollut Res Int 2019 Apr 15. Epub 2019 Apr 15.

Graduate School of Science, Anadolu University, 26470, Eskisehir, Turkey.

In this study, a chabazite-rich tuff (CHA) from the Bala deposit of Ankara region (Turkey) and its modified forms (CuCHA, AgCHA, FeCHA, and HCHA samples) were investigated at 273 and 298 K using volumetric apparatus up to 100 kPa. The chabazite samples were characterized by using thermal analysis (TG-DTG-DTA), X-ray diffraction (XRD), X-ray fluorescence (XRF), scanning electron microscopy with detector X-ray energy dispersive (SEM-EDX), Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR), and N adsorption methods. It was found that natural chabazite is composed of predominantly chabazite with small amounts of clinoptilolite and erionite. Read More

Anti-diabetic Properties of Calcium Channel Blockers: Inhibition Effects on Aldose Reductase Enzyme Activity.

Appl Biochem Biotechnol 2019 Apr 13. Epub 2019 Apr 13.

Department of Biochemistry, Faculty of Pharmacy, Anadolu University, 26470, Eskişehir, Turkey.

Aldose reductase (AR) belongs to NADPH-dependent oxidoreductases and converts glucose to sorbitol in the polyol pathway. AR inhibition is essential to prevent diabetic complications. Here, AR was purified from sheep kidney using simple methods and determined the interactions between some calcium channel blockers and the enzyme. Read More

Proteinous Polymeric Shell Decorated Nanocrystals for the Recognition of Immunoglobulin M.

J Fluoresc 2019 Apr 8. Epub 2019 Apr 8.

Department of Chemistry, Eskişehir Technical University, Eskisehir, Turkey.

This study demonstrates the preparation of photosensitively orientated and crosslinked proteinous polymeric shell having quantum dot based nanocrystals through Amino acid Decorated and Light Underpinning Conjugation Approach (ANADOLUCA). ANADOLUCA is based on photo-electron transfer method and uses these decorated nanocrystals for specifically and effectively recognition and detection of Immunoglobulin M in the aqueous environment. The conjugation method effectively provides an orientation of affinity pairs on the surface of quantum dots nanocrystals. Read More

Synthesis and AChE-Inhibitory Activity of New Benzimidazole Derivatives.

Molecules 2019 Feb 28;24(5). Epub 2019 Feb 28.

Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry, Faculty of Pharmacy, Anadolu University, 26210 Eskişehir, Turkey.

Alzheimer's disease (AD), one of the main causes of aged dementia, is a progressive and degenerative neurological disorder characterized by loss of cognition and memory. Although the symptomatic treatment of AD, particularly acetylcholinesterase inhibitors (AChEIs) based on the 'cholinergic hypothesis', has been successful in clinic, at present there is no cure for this disease. In this study, we designed compounds carrying benzimidazole and triazole rings on the same chemical skeleton so as to investigate their potential acetylcholinesterase and butyrylcholinesterase activity. Given that little is known about the underlying mechanisms of rumination in response to an interpersonal offense, the purpose of this research is to reveal if inferiority feelings, dispositional rumination, and gender predict rumination regarding an interpersonal offense in a college student population. A sample of 147 undergraduate students completed the Ruminative Thought Style Scale, the Inferiority Feelings Scale and the Rumination About an Interpersonal Offense scale. The results of the hierarchical regression analysis confirm that although the majority of variation in interpersonal rumination is accounted for by dispositional rumination, inferiority feelings still explain a significant amount of variation in interpersonal rumination. Discovery of novel anticandidal agents with clarified mechanisms of action, could be a rationalist approach against diverse pathogenic fungal strains due to the rise of resistance to existing drugs. In support to this hypothesis, in this paper, a series of benzimidazole-oxadiazole compounds were synthesized and subjected to antifungal activity evaluation. Synthesis and Evaluation of New 1,3,4-Thiadiazole Derivatives as Potent Antifungal Agents.

Molecules 2018 Nov 29;23(12). Epub 2018 Nov 29.

Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry, Faculty of Pharmacy, Anadolu University, Eskişehir 26470, Turkey.

With the goal of obtaining a novel bioactive compound with significant antifungal activity, a series of 1,3,4-thiadiazole derivatives (⁻) were synthesized and characterized. Due to thione-thiol tautomerism in the intermediate compound , type of substitution reaction in the final step was determined by two-dimensional (2D) NMR. In vitro antifungal activity of the synthesized compounds was evaluated against eight species. Read More

Cytokine Profile, Apoptosis, Glucocorticoid Receptor, and P-glycoprotein Expression Before and After Megadose Methylprednisolone Treatment in Children With Acute Immune Thrombocytopenia.

J Pediatr Hematol Oncol 2018 Nov 28. Epub 2018 Nov 28.

Department of Hematology, Anadolu Sağlik Merkezi (Private Hospital/In affiliation with Johns Hopkins Medicine), Gebze, Turkey.

Objective: Immune thrombocytopenia (ITP) is an autoimmune disease, and it has become evident that T lymphocytes play an important role in the pathogenesis of ITP. We investigated the role of T helper (Th) intracellular IL-2, IL-4, IL-6, IFN-γ, and T lymphocyte apoptosis in the pathogenesis of acute ITP and the effect of glucocorticoid treatment on cytokine profile. We investigated also P-glycoprotein (P-gp) and glucocorticoid receptor (GCR) expression as a possible mechanism for glucocorticoid resistance. Read More

Sci Rep 2018 Nov 27;8(1):17416. Epub 2018 Nov 27.

Department of Physics, Eskisehir Technical University, Eskisehir, 26555, Turkey.

We study PT symmetry protected topological phase in non-Hermitian 1D and 2D systems. We show that topological phase exist in non-Hermitian PT symmetric systems for both gapped and gapless systems and discuss appearance of exceptional points. We apply our formalism to a complex extension of the SSH model, topological semimetals and nodal superconductors. Read More
