Behavioral and neuroimmune characterization of resilience to social stress: rewarding effects of cocaine.

Adicciones 2020 Feb 14;0(0):1348. Epub 2020 Feb 14.

Universidad de Valencia.

Preclinical studies have shown that social stress increases vulnerability to the reinforcing effects of cocaine. However, the results are not always homogeneous, revealing a subpopulation that does not show a preference for cocaine. Thus, the main aim of the present study was to characterize the behavioral profile of resilient mice to the stress-induced rewarding effects of cocaine using an animal model of repeated social defeat stress (SD). Universidad CES.

The lack of consensus on the issue of whether the consumption of cannabis favors neurocognition among schizophrenia-diagnosed patients or not, plus methodological problems found in available evidence and the limitations of studies focused on diagnosis and treatment for positive symptoms are sufficient reason for designing new research proposals based on recent brain connectivity models. The objective of this paper is to review available literature databases, selected for neurocognition in cannabis-using schizophrenia patients and to analyze contributions made by functional connectivity studies. Cognitive impairment among schizophrenia patients is found even before the appearance of the first psychotic symptoms. Read More

Measurement instruments of online gaming disorder in adolescents and young people according to DSM-5 criteria: a systematic review.

Adicciones 2019 Jul 9;0(0):1277. Epub 2019 Jul 9.

Universidad Complutense de Madrid.

The inclusion of Internet Gaming Disorder (IGD) in the DSM-5 has generated controversy over its diagnosis, and it therefore seems necessary to establish a clear cut-off point to identify when excessive gaming becomes problematic. Such identification is especially difficult in adolescents and young people, who frequently dedicate a great deal of time to online games. The goal of this systematic review was to analyze the instruments developed to assess IGD in adolescents and young people since its inclusion in the DSM-5. Read More

There is evidence of these differences by sex, but research on their links to differences associated with gender dimensions is scarcer. Fenofibrate -a PPARα agonist- increases alcohol dehydrogenase levels in the liver: implications for its possible use as an ethanol-aversive drug.

Adicciones 2019 Mar 29;0(0):1226. Epub 2019 Mar 29.

Instituto de Ciencias Biomédicas Facultad de Ciencias de la Salud.

After ethanol consumption, disulfiram increases blood-acetaldehyde levels, generating an aversive reaction that deters alcohol drinking. Given the major secondary effects of disulfiram, finding other effective drugs to reduce alcohol consumption in individuals with alcohol-use-disorder is highly desirable. It has been reported that administering fenofibrate to high-drinking rats increases hepatic catalase levels and blood acetaldehyde after administering ethanol and a 60-70% inhibition of voluntary alcohol intake. The negative allosteric modulator of mGluR5, MPEP, potentiates the rewarding properties of cocaine in priming-induced reinstatement of CPP.

Adicciones 2019 Mar 28;0(0):1156. Epub 2019 Mar 28.

Universitat de València.

Cocaine addiction is a chronic disorder with high relapse rates; therefore, understanding the neuronal mechanisms underlying drug-seeking during relapse is a priority to develop targeted pharmacotherapy. The metabotropic glutamate receptor 5 (mGluR5) seems to be involved in the reinstatement induced by cocaine-associated cues. The main objective of the study was to evaluate the efficacy of MPEP, a negative allosteric modulator of mGluR5, in attenuating or potentiating the reinstatement induced by priming doses of cocaine in the CPP paradigm, ultimately to further knowledge regarding the role of the mGluR5 in relapse into cocaine abuse.
