Observational Study on Knowledge, Attitude and Practice of Dentistry in Public Health

Background: Public Health is the branch of medicine which is defined as ''the science and art of preventing diseases, prolonging life and improving quality of life through organized efforts and informed choices of society, organizations, public and private, communities and individuals." in the classical book known as 'The Untilled Field of Public Health' in 1920. Therefore, it has a larger activity in all the field of treatment and health behavioural provisions. Since the oral cavity is one of the fundamental encampments towards the physique, dentistry is an important branch of medicine. Consequently 'Dental Public Health" has a key role playing among these different branches. Methods: It is a mini observational article. The idea was created after observing the high prevalence of tooth decay at different stages of life due to lack of awareness and health behaviour knowledge. The evidence articles have been cited in the bibliography part for the acknowledgement and information of the readers. Conclusion: Health behaviours are the habit or the practices that are exercised regularly in life and sociodemographic status determines the practices to be adopted. Therefore, proper communication and transmission of true and effective knowledge is the gateway to build the practices. In public health, the feasible behaviours for oral care should be publicized effectively to identify the good habits that are beneficial for health.Publication Date: 2020
