Authors:
B N Zyrianov N A Makarkin V I Tikhonov S A Tuzikov

Vopr Onkol 1993 ;39(1-3):40-4

The report discusses a method of long-term catheterization of the celiac artery by lumbo-transaortal access. Intraarterial regional chemotherapy with 5-fluorouracil was administered to 56 cases of gastric cancer, stage III, before and after surgery. A significant drop in postoperative complication rate from 47.8 +/- 6% after surgery to 16.0 +/- 4% after combination treatment was recorded. During two years after operation, metastases and recurrences were registered in II out of 52 patients receiving intraarterial chemotherapy (21. +/- 5%), as compared with 34 out of 58 (58.6 +/- 6%) in controls without chemotherapy.

Pediatr Blood Cancer 2022 May 20:e29770. Epub 2022 May 20.

Pediatrics Department, Nationwide Children's Hospital, Columbus, Ohio, USA.

Background: Medulloblastoma is the most common malignant brain tumor in children. While survival has improved in high-income countries (HIC), the outcomes for patients in low-to-middle-income countries (LMIC) are unclear. Therefore, we sought to determine the survival of children with medulloblastoma at the Instituto Nacional de Enfermedades Neoplasicas (INEN) between 1997 and 2013 in Peru. Read More

Patients with ovarian cancer who receive platinum-based chemotherapy typically develop platinum resistance, which leads to tumor recurrence and mortality. Therefore, finding the underlying mechanisms and biomarkers is critical. A total of 51 platinum-resistant and 70 platinum-sensitive ovarian cancer patients were enrolled in this study. Read More

Hereditary transthyretin amyloidosis (ATTRv) is a multisystemic, rare, inherited, progressive and adult-onset disease, affecting the sensorimotor nerves, heart, autonomic function and other organs. The actual scenario of pharmaceutical approaches for ATTRv amyloidosis includes five main groups: TTR stabilizers, TTR mRNA silencers, TTR fibril disruptors, inhibitor of TTR fibril seeding and gene therapy. Patisiran is a small, double-stranded interfering RNA encapsulated in a lipid nanoparticle, able to penetrate into hepatocytes, where it selectively targets TTR mRNA, reducing TTR production. BMC Infect Dis 2022 May 19;22(1):478. Epub 2022 May 19.

Department of Infectious Diseases, Vestfold Hospital Trust, Postbox 2168, 3103, Tønsberg, Norway.

Background: The role of oral beta-lactam antibiotics in treating febrile urinary tract infections (UTI) is not yet definite. Today, fluoroquinolones together with trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole (TMP-MTX) are considered standard of care and often the only available evidence-based oral treatment for febrile UTI. This study clarifies the efficacy and safety of pivmecillinam (PIV) used as step-down therapy for bacteremic urinary tract infection (UTI). Read More
