Blood Flow Restriction Therapy for Two Weeks Prior to Anterior Cruciate Ligament Reconstruction Did not Impact Quadriceps Strength Compared to Standard Therapy.

Authors:
Joseph S Tramer Lafi S Khalil Toufic R Jildeh Muhammad J Abbas Anna McGee Michael J Lau Vasilios Moutzouros Kelechi R Okoroha

Arthroscopy 2022 Jul 14. Epub 2022 Jul 14.

Department of Orthopedic Surgery, Mayo Clinic, Rochester, Minnesota, U.S.A.

Purpose: To evaluate the efficacy of a 2-week home-based blood flow restriction (BFR) prehabiliation program on quadriceps strength and patient-reported outcomes prior to anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction.

Methods: Patients presenting with an ACL tear were randomized into two groups, BFR and control, at their initial clinic visit. Quadriceps strength was measured using a handheld dynamometer in order to calculate peak force, average force, and time to peak force during seated leg extension at the initial clinic visit and repeated on the day of surgery. Measurement and mobilisation of localised oedema in haemodialysis.

Authors:
Ryan Longley David F Keane

J Ren Care 2022 Jul 3. Epub 2022 Jul 3.

Department of Medical Physics and Engineering, Leeds Teaching Hospitals Trust, Leeds, England.

Background: The presence of localised oedema can make measurement and removal of excess fluid in haemodialysis challenging.

Objectives: To evaluate (i) the effectiveness of intermittent pneumatic compression and neuromuscular electrical stimulation at mobilising oedema and (ii) the impact of localised fluid on bioimpedance measured fluid status.

Design: A single centre, cross-over study design. Read More
