Progressive resistance training (PRT) and high-intensity interval training (HIIT) improve cardiometabolic health in older adults. Whether combination PRT+HIIT (COMB) provides similar or additional benefit is less clear. This systematic review with meta-analysis of controlled trials examined effects of PRT, HIIT and COMB compared to non-exercise control in older adults with high cardiometabolic risk. Read More

Purpose: The aim of this study was to report on the feasibility of setting up a system of corneal transplants at rural outreach centers and report the outcomes of the first 111 cases. Methods: Retrospective analysis of the outcomes of corneal transplantation performed on patients with optical indications between March 2016 and September 2019 at 4 secondary (rural) centers. The centers are a part of a network in the pyramidal model developed by L V Prasad Eye Institute. Read More

Background And Purpose: Falls can result in bone fractures and disability, presenting a serious threat to quality of life and independence in older adults. The majority of falls in community-living older adults occur while walking and are often caused by trips and slips. The study aimed to identify the specific sensorimotor and psychological factors required for older adults to recover balance from trips and slips. Read More

Many people with chronic pain escalate their opioid dosage to counteract tolerance effects. A treatment regimen consisting of placebos admixed with opioids has been suggested as a possible therapeutic option that could reduce the harm of long-term opioid use. However, the analgesic efficacy of such a regimen requires further investigation before widespread adoption. Read More

Background: Chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy (CIPN) is reported to affect up to 70 % of cancer survivors. Despite evidence that CIPN-related impairments often translate into balance and mobility deficits, the effects on stepping and quality of gait, well-documented risk factors for falls, are unclear.Aims: (i) Establish choice-stepping reaction time (CSRT) performance in survivors with CIPN compared to young and older healthy controls and people with Parkinson's disease; (ii) document walking stability; (iii) investigate relationships between stepping and gait data to objective and patient-reported outcomes.
