Bazex paraneoplastic acrokeratosis: a case report and response to Tigason.

Authors:
J M Wishart

Br J Dermatol 1986 Nov;115(5):595-9

A clinically typical case of Bazex acrokeratosis neoplastica is presented. This case is unusual in that the syndrome developed two years after a neoplasm was diagnosed. Almost complete clinical clearance was obtained with oral Tigason, making it the first recorded case to improve without removal of the underlying neoplasm.

MiR-641 Exacerbates the Progression of Ischemic Stroke Through the MCL-1/Wnt/β-Catenin Pathway.

Authors:
Qi Pan Kaixuan Li Linxia Xue Xiaoyi Cheng Qi Zhou

Clin Lab 2022 Aug;68(8)

Background: Ischemic stroke refers to ischemic necrosis or softening of limited brain tissue caused by ischemia and hypoxia due to impaired blood circulation in the brain. Ischemic stroke is a major classification of cerebrovascular disease, accounting for about 80% of patients with cerebrovascular disease in China, with a high rate of disability and death. Recently, miRNAs were reported to participate in ischemic stroke pathogenesis and development. Read More

Background: Pancreatic cancer (PC) is a highly malignant tumor featured with high intra-tumoral heterogeneity and poor prognosis. Cell-in-cell (CIC) structures have been reported in multiple cancers, and their presence is associated with disease progression. Nonetheless, the prognostic values and biological functions of CIC-related genes in PC remain poorly understood. Read More

Chronic stress activates the sympathetic nervous system (SNS) and hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis to aggravates tumorigenesis and development. Although the importance of SNS and HPA in maintaining homeostasis has already attracted much attention, there is still a lot remained unknown about the molecular mechanisms by which chronic stress influence the occurrence and development of tumor. While some researches have already concluded the mechanisms underlying the effect of chronic stress on tumor, complicated processes of tumor progression resulted in effects of chronic stress on various stages of tumor remains elusive. JMIR Public Health Surveill 2022 Aug 16;8(8):e34589. Epub 2022 Aug 16.

Department of Population Health, University of Kansas Medical Center, Kansas City, KS, United States.

Background: Monitoring disease incidence rates over time with population surveillance data is fundamental to public health research and practice. Bayesian disease monitoring methods provide advantages over conventional methods including greater flexibility in model specification and the ability to conduct formal inference on model-derived quantities of interest. However, software platforms for Bayesian inference are often inaccessible to nonspecialists. Read More

Purpose: To define dominant molecular and cellular features associated with PD-1/PD-L1 blockade resistance in metastatic urothelial cancer.

Experimental Design: We pursued an unbiased approach using bulk RNA sequencing data from two clinical trials to discover (IMvigor 210) and validate (CheckMate 275) pretreatment molecular features associated with resistance to PD-1/PD-L1 blockade in metastatic urothelial cancer. We then generated single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq) data from muscle-invasive bladder cancer specimens to dissect the cellular composition underlying the identified gene signatures. Read More
