Objective: Super-refractory status epilepticus (SRSE) is associated with significant morbidity and mortality in children. We explored the clinical spectrum, specific characteristics, and outcome in SRSE patients admitted in a pediatric intensive care unit (PICU) and investigated how well current diagnostic or treatment modalities perform compared to Status Epilepticus (SE) and Refractory SE (RSE) patients. Methods: Retrospective analysis of PICU patients admitted with convulsive SE during 2009-2019. Despite vaccines are the main strategy to control the ongoing global COVID-19 pandemic, their effectiveness could not be enough for individuals with immunosuppression. In these cases, as well as in patients with moderate/severe COVID-19, passive immunization with anti-SARS-CoV-2 immunoglobulins could be a therapeutic alternative. We used caprylic acid precipitation to prepare a pilot-scale batch of anti-SARS-CoV-2 intravenous immunoglobulins (IVIg) from plasma of donors immunized with the BNT162b2 (Pfizer-BioNTech) anti-COVID-19 vaccine (VP-IVIg) and compared their efficacy and safety with those of a similar formulation produced from plasma of COVID-19 convalescent donors (CP-IVIg). Objectives: Intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIG) resistance was a major cause of coronary artery lesions in children with Kawasaki disease (KD). However, the cause of IVIG resistance in KD remains unknown. miR-221-3p has been confirmed involved in cardiovascular diseases and rheumatoid arthritis. Read More

Gestational alloimmune liver disease (GALD) is a materno-fetal alloimmune disorder that targets the fetal liver and often causes neonatal liver failure. GALD most commonly presents as neonatal hemochromatosis (NH), which is a severe neonatal liver injury confirmed by extra-hepatic iron accumulation at various sites. With the discovery of the alloimmune mechanism of GALD, exchange transfusion and intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIG) administration are being used as novel treatments. Read More

Background: Multifocal motor neuropathy (MMN) is a rare, probably immune-mediated disorder characterised by slowly progressive, asymmetric, distal weakness of one or more limbs with no objective loss of sensation. It may cause prolonged periods of disability. Treatment options for MMN are few. Read More
