Objective: Bariatric surgery has become the most effective treatment for morbid obesity. Increasing evidence showed that bariatric surgery can alleviate insulin resistance and influence thyroid function. This study aimed to investigate the relationship between changes in thyroid function and adipose tissue insulin resistance (adipo-IR) after bariatric surgery. Read More

Endocrine-active chemicals can directly act on nuclear receptors and trigger the disturbances of metabolism and a homeostatic system, which are important risk factors for complicating chronic diseases in humans. The endocrine-active potentials of pesticides acting on estrogen, androgen, and thyroid hormone receptors have been extensively evaluated for pesticides; however, the effects on other receptors are less understood. This study aims to comprehensively characterize and prioritize the endocrine-active pesticides using an exposure-activity ratio (EAR) method and toxicological prioritization index (ToxPi). Read More

Hashimoto's thyroiditis (HT), also known as chronic lymphocytic thyroiditis, is a frequent disorder of the thyroid gland caused by autoimmune-trigged lymphocytic infiltration and destruction of the thyroid gland. With the progressive destruction of the organ, the thyroid gland shrinks in size, thus commonly leading to hypothyroidism. Therapy of HT is mainly focused on managing the thyroid dysfunction by oral substitution of L‑thyroxine. Read More

Although the etiology of Hashimoto's thyroiditis (HT), a common autoimmune endocrine disease, is unknown, studies suggest a potential association with genetic factors and environmental conditions inducing excessive iodine intake. Additionally, HT patients have a high risk of papillary thyroid cancer (PTC), which is probably related to the chronic inflammation and autoimmune pathologic process occurring in HT, as it is thought to be associated with neoplastic transformation. Bioinformatics approaches can identify differentially expressed genes (DEGs) and analyze DEG functions in diseases. Read More
