Background/purpose Of The Study: Sodium-glucose cotransporter 2 inhibitors have shown excellent results in glucose control in type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) patients, while also promoting weight loss. These mechanisms may be beneficial in the treatment of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). Our study aims to investigate the effect of dapagliflozin on hepatic and visceral fat contents, and related biochemical markers in T2DM with NAFLD patients. Read More

An increased hemoglobin (Hb) level may have detrimental effects on hepatic steatosis (HS) as well as cardiovascular disease (CVD). We investigated Hb's effect on incident ischemic heart disease (IHD) risk in the context of hepatic steatosis (HS). We assessed 17,521 non-diabetic participants and retrospectively screened for IHD using the Korea National Health Insurance data. Read More

Cardiac myxomas, primarily originating from the left atrium, are the most prevalent types of benign cardiac tumors; however, biatrial myxomas are extremely rare. Herein, we present a rare case of a 55-year old male with exertional dyspnea and intermittent chest discomfort due to a giant biatrial mass with concomitant atrial fibrillation and hepatic hemangioma. The giant tumor with its peduncle at the interatrial septum involved both atria; however, bulging through the tricuspid valve to the right ventricle during systole. Read More

Background: Cafeteria diet is known to induce excessive body fat accumulation (obesity) that could cause metabolic and cardiovascular changes and even death. The increase in prevalence over time and the failure in treatment options make obesity a real public health problem. The present study assessed the preventive effect of the hydro-ethanolic extract of the leaf on the development of metabolic and cardiovascular changes in cafeteria diet fed Wistar rats. Read More

Background: Inflammation and malnutrition are common problems in patients who are hospitalized for acute heart failure (AHF). C-reactive protein (CRP) is an acute-phase reactant and nonspecific marker for evaluating systemic inflammation. There has been growing interest in prealbumin for nutritional assessment. Read More
