Available aortic prosthesis replacement options are challenged to achieve low perioperative morbidity, low pressure gradients, and prolonged durability. Trileaflet aortic valve reconstruction using autologous pericardium offers an alternative treatment option with excellent postoperative gradients, large effective orifice areas, and the avoidance of long-term anticoagulation. The modified Bentall procedure with either tissue xenograft valved conduit or mechanical valved conduit is considered the gold standard for patients with aortic root pathology requiring surgical replacement. Congenital anomalies of the aortic valve frequently necessitate intervention in childhood. The most common aortic valve pathologies present in childhood are aortic stenosis and insufficiency. Presentation of aortic valve disease depends on severity and presence of concomitant syndromes and valvular disorders. Read More

Objective: We aimed to investigate pacemaker dependency after at least 1 year in patients with early (<7 days) implantation, compared to those who received a pacemaker ≥7 days after surgery. Secondary endpoints were length of hospital stay and in-hospital complications. Methods: Retrospective analysis of 108 consecutive patients who received a pacemaker after cardiac surgery between 06/2012 and 06/2018. Objective: Our goal was to present 2 decades of our experience with the Ross procedure and its sequential modifications, adopted since 2010, to improve the reoperation rate. Methods: We performed a single-centre, retrospective review of database information and medical notes about the implantation technique: the freestanding root. We compared era 1 (1997-2009) and era 2 (2010-2019). Read More

Purpose: To examine the prognostic value of location-specific arterial calcification quantities at lung screening low-dose CT for the prediction of cardiovascular disease (CVD) mortality.Materials And Methods: This retrospective study included 5564 participants who underwent low-dose CT from the National Lung Screening Trial between August 2002 and April 2004, who were followed until December 2009. A deep learning network was trained to quantify six types of vascular calcification: thoracic aorta calcification (TAC); aortic and mitral valve calcification; and coronary artery calcification (CAC) of the left main, the left anterior descending, and the right coronary artery.
