This study assessed the relationship between the recharge of the unconfined sedimentary Adamantina Aquifer and its discharge into the Batalha River in a small basin of 125 km2 that drains the municipalities of Bauru, Agudos and Piratininga (SP, Brazil). According to the Eckhardt Flow Separation Filters and Soil Moisture Accounting Procedure methods, the recharge was 312.6 mm/yr and 232. Read More

Providing nursing home psychosocial care to persons with serious mental illnesses (SMI) requires understanding of comorbidities and attention to resident rights, needs and preferences. This quantitative study reports how 924 social service directors (SSDs) taking part in the National Nursing Home Social Service Director survey identified their roles and competence, stratified by the percentage of residents with SMI. More than 70% of SSDs, across all categories of homes, reported the social services department was "always" involved in conducting depression screening, biopsychosocial assessments and PASRR planning. Our study is one of the few to analyze executive functioning (EF) in a as a potential contributor to the comorbidity between attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and basic reading disability (RD). We included multiple, traditional, neuropsychological measures of EF, along with the Behavior Rating Inventory of Executive Function (BRIEF) questionnaire, to assess inhibit, shift, working memory (WM), planning, generation fluency, and problem-solving. Participants included 263 children, ages 8-12 years, with RD, ADHD, RD/ADHD, and typically developing controls. Read More

The lateral septum (LS) has been implicated in a wide variety of functions, including emotional, motivational, and spatial behavior, and the LS may regulate interactions between the hippocampus and other regions that mediate goal directed behavior. In this review, we suggest that the lateral septum incorporates movement into the evaluation of environmental context with respect to motivation, anxiety, and reward to output an 'integrated movement value signal'. Specifically, hippocampally-derived contextual information may be combined with reinforcement or motivational information in the LS to inform task-relevant decisions. Read More

Purpose: The main objective of the present study was to compare the 2-deoxy-2-[F]fluoro-D-glucose ([F]-FDG) and 3'-[F]fluoro-3'-deoxythymidine ([F]-FLT) PET imaging biomarkers for the longitudinal follow-up of small animal proton therapy studies in the context of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC).Procedures: SK-HEP-1 cells were injected into NMRI nude mice to mimic human HCC. The behavior of [F]-FDG and [F]-FLT tumor uptake was evaluated after proton therapy procedures. Read More
