Aims: To assess whether a single platelet-rich plasma (PRP) injection would reduce pain intensity in chronic greater trochanteric pain syndrome (GTPS).Methods: Subjects with chronic lateral hip pain were randomised to either a PRP injection (intervention group) or a saline injection (control group) and both groups were prescribed identical eccentric exercise. Brief Pain Inventory (BPI), health professional consultation rate, medication use, Likert scale of progress, Expectation of Improvement Scale were assessed monthly for six months with a final follow-up one year after the intervention. Background: Thrombogenicity is one of the main parameters tested in vitro to evaluate the hemocompatibility of artificial surfaces. While the influence of the temperature on platelet aggregation has been addressed by several studies, the temperature influence on the adherence of platelets to body foreign surfaces as an important aspect of biomedical device handling has not yet been explored. Therefore, we analyzed the influence of two typically applied incubation-temperatures (22°C and 37°C) on the adhesion of platelets to biomaterials. Read More

Background: Platelet transfusions are used to prevent and treat bleeding in patients who are thrombocytopenic. Despite improvements in donor screening and laboratory testing, a small risk of viral, bacterial or protozoal contamination of platelets remains. There is also an ongoing risk from newly emerging blood transfusion-transmitted infections (TTIs) for which laboratory tests may not be available at the time of initial outbreak. Read More

This study was purposed to investigate the short-term effects of citrate administration on bone metabolism in the healthy blood donor volunteers. A crossover, placebo-controlled trial were conducted on 22 healthy blood donor volunteers. The volunteers received either a standardized infusion of citrate at 1. Read More
