Objective: To compare the mean time of orotracheal intubation and insertion of supraglottic airway devices, considering healthcare providers wearing waterproof overall, gloves, boots, eye protection and mask at the Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear context in simulation setting. Methods: Six databases were searched. The selected studies were put in a pool of results using a random-effects meta-analysis, with standardized mean differences and calculation of 95% confidence intervals. Read More

In Sweden, the 7-valent pneumococcal conjugate vaccine (PCV7) was introduced in 2009 and replaced by the pneumococcal non-typeable protein D conjugate vaccine (PHiD-CV) or the 13-valent PCV (PCV13) from late 2009. We assessed the impact of PCVs on rates of antibiotic prescribing, tympanostomy tube placement (TTP), and healthcare resource utilization and direct costs of physician-diagnosed otitis media/acute otitis media (OM) in children ≤2 years of age living in Skåne (PCV7 then PHiD-CV) or Västra Götalandsregionen (VGR; PCV7 then PCV13). Retrospective cohort study using linked patient-level data from national and regional (Skåne and VGR) healthcare databases in Sweden from July 1, 2005, to December 31, 2013 (NCT02742753). Read More

Background: Venous access devices are used for patients receiving long-term chemotherapy. These include centrally inserted tunnelled catheters or Hickman-type devices (Hickman), peripherally inserted central catheters (PICCs) and centrally inserted totally implantable venous access devices (PORTs).Objectives: To evaluate the clinical effectiveness, safety, cost-effectiveness and acceptability of these devices for the central delivery of chemotherapy. Introduction: Multimodal analgesia regimens incorporating peripheral nerve blocks (PNB) have demonstrated reduced postoperative pain, opioid use, and recovery time in various disease states. However, this remains a subject of limited investigation in the percutaneous nephrolithotomy (PCNL) domain. In the face of an ongoing opioid epidemic and collective push to enhance prescribing stewardship, we sought to examine the potential opioid-sparing effect of PNB in PCNL. Read More

Background: Separation gels are often used in collection tubes, but adsorption of drugs onto the gel may cause falsely low concentrations in therapeutic drug monitoring. In this study, the stability of apixaban, edoxaban, rivaroxaban, flecainide, amiodarone, and desethylamiodarone was assessed in tubes, with and without gel separators. Methods: Drug-free blood was spiked and stored for up to 7 d in non-gel tubes and gel tubes from two manufacturers (Vacuette and Vacutainer).
