Potential of Perfusion Magnetic Resonance Imaging to Predict Residual Renal Function after Radical Nephroureterectomy.

Urol Int 2021 Feb 24:1-7. Epub 2021 Feb 24.

Department of Urology, Tokyo Medical and Dental University Graduate School, Tokyo, Japan.

Introduction: The diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI) technique with intravoxel incoherent motion model enables the estimation of capillary blood volume as a perfusion-related parameter- (PP-) value. Therefore, the PP-value of the kidney theoretically reflects renal capillary blood volume. We analyzed the usefulness of the PP-value in estimating postoperative renal function in upper-tract urothelial carcinoma (UTUC) patients. Read More

Quality Indicator Selection for The Canadian Partnership Against Cancer (CPAC) Rectal Cancer Project: A Modified Delphi Study.

Colorectal Dis 2021 Feb 24. Epub 2021 Feb 24.

Department of Surgery, Mount Sinai Hospital, Toronto, ON, Canada.

Aim: It is well established that (i) magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), (ii) Multidisciplinary Cancer Conference (MCC), (iii) pre-operative radiotherapy, (iv) Total Mesorectal Excision (TME) surgery and (v) pathologic assessment as described by Quirke are key processes necessary for high quality, rectal cancer care. The objective was to select a set of multidisciplinary, quality indicators to measure the uptake of these clinical processes in clinical practice.

Method: A multidisciplinary panel was convened and a modified, two phase Delphi method was used to select a set of quality indicators. Read More

The role of advanced multimodality imaging in chronic mitral regurgitation.

Med Ultrason 2020 Dec 5. Epub 2020 Dec 5.

"Iuliu Hatieganu" University of Medicine and Pharmacy, 2nd Department of Internal Medicine, Emergency County Hospital, Cluj-Napoca, Romania.

Mitral regurgitation (MR), the second most common valvular heart disease, still constitutes a major diagnostic and thera-peutic challenge, due to its complex nature and to its consequences on cardiac remodelling. Life quality and expectancy are determined by the irreversibility of the left ventricular systolic dysfunction, which, despite current guidelines, remains a major drawback. In order to accurately establish "the point of no return" for left ventricular systolic function, the embedment of clinical, biological and imaging data is a requirement. Read More

Dynamic MRI reconstruction via weighted tensor nuclear norm regularizer.

Kaiyan Cui

IEEE J Biomed Health Inform 2021 Feb 24;PP. Epub 2021 Feb 24.

In this paper, we propose a novel multi-dimensional reconstruction method based on the low-rank plus sparse tensor (L + S) decomposition model to reconstruct dynamic magnetic resonance imaging (dMRI). The multi-dimensional reconstruction method is formulated using a non-convex alternating direction method of multipliers (ADMM), where the weighted tensor nuclear norm (WTNN) and 1-norm are used to enforce the low rank in L and the sparsity in S, respectively. In particular, the weights used in the WTNN are sorted in a non-descending order, and we obtain a closed-form optimal solution of the WTNN minimization problem. Read More

Development and Initial Results of a Brain PET Insert for Simultaneous 7-Tesla PET/MRI Using an FPGA-Only Signal Digitization Method.

IEEE Trans Med Imaging 2021 Feb 24;PP. Epub 2021 Feb 24.

In this study, we developed a positron emission tomography (PET) insert for simultaneous brain imaging within 7-Tesla (7T) magnetic resonance (MR) imaging scanners. The PET insert has 18 sectors, and each sector is assembled with two-layer depth-of-interaction (DOI)-capable high-resolution block detectors. The PET scanner features a 16. Read More
