Background: Our study investigates treatment profiles in octogenarian patients with small cell lung cancer (SCLC) and assesses each treatment's role in a stage-specific manner. Methods: Patient data from individuals with SCLC aged 80 years and older between 1988 and 2015 in the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results Program (SEER) database were extracted. Cancer-specific survival (CSS) between patients with no treatment and different treatment groups were compared by the Kaplan-Meier method, with stratifications by stage. Read More

Research on metacognition-thinking about thinking-has grown rapidly and fostered our understanding of human cognition in healthy individuals and clinical populations. Of central importance is the concept of metacognitive performance, which characterizes the capacity of an individual to estimate and report the accuracy of primary (type 1) cognitive processes or actions ensuing from these processes. Arguably one of the biggest challenges for measures of metacognitive performance is their dependency on objective type 1 performance, although more recent methods aim to address this issue. Read More

Background: There has been an interest in real-world evidence (RWE) in recent years. RWE is usually generated from data derived from routine healthcare, such as electronic healthcare records and disease registries. While RWE has many advantages, it is often open to various biases, which may distort results. Read More

Given a choice, pigeons prefer an initial-link stimulus that is followed by reliable signals that food will be delivered (S+) or not (S-) after a delay, over an alternative initial-link stimulus that is followed by unreliable signals of food, even when the former yields a lower overall probability of food. This suboptimal preference has been attributed to the combination of a biased attraction to the S+ and ignoring the S-. We evaluated the inhibitory properties of the S- in three experiments to investigate its role in suboptimal choice. Read More

Background: Joint denervation of the wrist, basal joint of the thumb, and the finger is an option for patients with chronic pain. Compared with other surgical treatment options, function is preserved and the rehabilitation time is limited. A systematic review and meta-analysis were performed for each joint to determine whether the choice of technique and choice of denervation of specific articular sensory branches lead to a different outcome.
