Hypospadias is a common congenital genitourinary malformation characterized by ventral opening of the urethral meatus. As a member of the bone morphogenic protein antagonist family, has been identified as associated with susceptibility to hypospadias in the European population. The present study was designed to elaborate on the mutual relationship between replicated single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) and hypospadias in Asia's largest case-control study in the Southern Han Chinese population involving 577 patients and 654 controls. Objective: The aims of this study were to review the National Spina Bifida Patient Registry (NSBPR) data set to study the rates of tethered spinal cord release (TCR) among patients with myelomeningocele and variability between centers, to compare TCR rates between males and females, and to study the relationships between TCR rates and other condition-specific characteristics. Methods: The NSBPR registry was queried to identify all patients with myelomeningocele. TCR rates were calculated over time using survival analyses; rates between centers and between males and females were compared. Read More

Background: Influenza vaccination is the most commonly recommended immune prevention strategy. However, data on influenza vaccination in patients with congenital heart disease (CHD) is scarce. In this study, our goals were to (i) measure vaccination coverage rates (VCR) for influenza in a large cohort of children, adolescents and adults with CHD, (ii) identity patient characteristics as predictors for vaccination, and (iii) investigate the impact of influenza vaccination on hospitalization. Management of aortic valve (AV) disease in the pediatric population is challenged by a lack of attractive valve replacement options. The Ross procedure has been prominent for these patients, however long-term reports have revealed concerns, namely neo-aortic root dilation and regurgitation. More recently, AV neocuspidization (AVNeo) has emerged as an alternative to the Ross operation or other valve replacement procedures in pediatric patients with congenital AV disease. Read More

Development of major aortopulmonary collateral arteries (MAPCAs) are strongly associated with cyanotic congenital heart disease. However, MAPCAs have rarely been reported in non-cyanotic congenital heart disease. We report on a rare case of a newborn originally diagnosed with an atrial septal defect, a ventricular septal defect, and pulmonary arterial hypertension, who underwent complete repair. Read More
