Phagocytosis consists in ingestion and digestion of large particles, a process strictly dependent on actin re-organization. Using synchronized phagocytosis of IgG-coated latex beads (IgG-LB), zymosan or serum opsonized-zymosan, we report the formation of actin structures on both phagocytic cups and closed phagosomes in human macrophages. Their lifespan, size, protein composition and organization are similar to podosomes. Read More

Biochem Biophys Res Commun 2021 Apr 6;556:39-44. Epub 2021 Apr 6.

Department of Pediatric Intensive Care Unit, Children's Hospital of Chongqing Medical University, Chongqing, China. Electronic address:

Objective: To investigate the effect and significance of mammalian target of rapamycin (mTOR) inhibitors on the expression of α-SMA in lung injury induced by high volume fraction of inspired oxygen (hyperoxygen) in SD rat pups.

Methods: Seventy-two Sprague-Dawley rat pups (age: 3 weeks) were randomly divided into air + saline, hyperoxia + saline, hyperoxia + OSI-027, and hyperoxia + rapamycin groups. Animal models were constructed (n = 18). Read More

The combination of antiarrhythmic agents, amiodarone or dronedarone, with the anticoagulant rivaroxaban is used clinically in the management of atrial fibrillation for rhythm control and secondary stroke prevention respectively. Renal drug-drug interactions (DDIs) between amiodarone or dronedarone and rivaroxaban were previously ascribed to inhibition of rivaroxaban secretion by P-glycoprotein at the apical membrane of renal proximal tubular epithelial cells. Benzbromarone, a known inhibitor of organic anion transporter 3 (OAT3), shares a benzofuran scaffold with amiodarone and dronedarone. Read More

Beta-secretase (BACE1) and gamma-secretase activating protein (GSAP) are pivotal enzymes in the cleavage of amyloid precursor protein (APP). Beta-amyloid (Aß) formation is considered one of the main reasons for Alzheimer's disease (AD) pathology. In our preliminary study, a series of microRNAs (miRs) with possible interaction with BACE1 and/or GSAP was selected using computational analysis. Read More

Fluoxetine (FLX), a commonly used selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor, is often used to treat depression during pregnancy. However, prenatal exposure to FLX has been associated with a series of neuropsychiatric illnesses. The use of a rodent model can provide a clear indication as to whether prenatal exposure to SSRIs, independent of maternal psychiatric disorders or genetic syndromes, can cause long-term behavioral abnormalities in offspring.
