Marker sutures are often used for excised cutaneous lesions to aid histological analysis, however, there are no current guidelines to facilitate this in practice. The authors hypothesised that a lack of guidelines causes a variation in clinical practice and confusion of meaning between plastic surgeons and pathologists. This questionnaire-based study confirms the authors' hypothesis and highlights a discrepancy both between surgeons and in individual surgical practice. Read More

Objectives: Vulvar squamous cell carcinoma is subclassified into three prognostically relevant groups: (i) human papillomavirus (HPV) associated, (ii) HPV independent p53 abnormal (mutant pattern), and (iii) HPV independent p53 wild type. Immunohistochemistry for p16 and p53 serve as surrogates for HPV viral integration and mutational status. We assessed the reproducibility of the subclassification based on p16 and p53 immunohistochemistry and evaluated the prognostic significance of vulvar squamous cell carcinoma molecular subgroups in a patient cohort treated by vulvar field resection surgery. Background: Loss of retinal ganglion cells after occipital lobe damage is known to occur through transsynaptic retrograde degeneration in congenital lesions; however, studies of this phenomenon in acquired pathology, such as strokes affecting postgenicular visual pathway, are scant. We studied a cohort of adult patients with known onset of occipital lobe stroke to look for the presence, rate, and timing of macular ganglion cell loss on optical coherence tomography. Methods: Retrospective review of patients seen in tertiary neuro-ophthalmology practice with homonymous hemianopia secondary to occipital lobe stroke of known onset. Our core body temperature is held around [Formula: see text]C by an effective internal thermoregulatory system. However, various clinical scenarios have a more favorable outcome under external temperature regulation. Therapeutic hypothermia, for example, was found beneficial for the outcome of resuscitated cardiac arrest patients due to its protection against cerebral ischemia. Read More

Nonclinical implantation studies are a common and often critical step for medical device safety assessment in the bench-to-market pathway. Nonclinical implanted medical devices or drug-device combination products require complex macroscopic and microscopic pathology evaluations due to the physical presence of the device itself and unique tissue responses to device materials. The Medical Device Implant Site Evaluation working group of the Society of Toxicologic Pathology's (STP) Scientific and Regulatory Policy Committee (SRPC) was tasked with reviewing scientific, technical, and regulatory considerations for these studies.
