Purpose: The purpose of this study is to evaluate the effect of obesity on the outcome of operatively treated proximal humerus fractures. Methods: Between December 2003 and October 2020, 240 patients with proximal humerus fractures requiring surgery were prospectively followed and classified according to the international AO/Orthopedic Trauma Association (AO/OTA) and Neer classifications. Patients' body mass indexes (BMI) were calculated and used to identify two groups, BMI ≥ 30 kg/cm (obese) and < 30 kg/cm (non-obese). Read More

Abstract: The stability and longevity of the prosthesis after revision total elbow arthroplasty (TEA) are greatly influenced by the reconstruction of bone defects around the distal humerus and proximal ulna. This study evaluated the clinical and radiological results of reconstruction of a large bone defect using an autogenous fibular strut and iliac bone graft in revision TEA.This retrospective study reviewed 10 patients who underwent revision TEA with autogenous fibular strut and iliac corticocancellous bone graft between March 2007 and May 2016. Periprosthetic joint infection (PJI) is one of the most devastating complications that can occur after shoulder arthroplasty. Although staged revision arthroplasty is the standard treatment in many cases, surgical intervention with debridement, antibiotics, and implant retention (DAIR) can be an effective option for acute PJI. We report a complex case of infected reverse shoulder arthroplasty (RSA) in a 73-year-old male. Read More

Background: The treatment approach for proximal humeral fractures is determined by various factors, including patient age, sex, dominant arm, fracture pattern, presence of osteoporosis, preexisting arthritis, rotator cuff status, and medical comorbidities. However, there is a lack of consensus in the literature regarding the optimal treatment for displaced proximal humeral fractures. This study aimed to assess and quantify the decision-making process for either conservative or surgical treatment and the choice of surgical method among shoulder surgeons when treating proximal humeral fractures.
