Acute lung injury (ALI) and acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) affect over 200,000 individuals yearly with a 40% mortality rate. While platelets are implicated in the progression of ALI/ARDS, their exact role remains undefined. Triggering Receptor Expressed in Myeloid cells (TREM)-Like Transcript (TLT)-1 is found on platelets, binds fibrinogen, and mediates clot formation. Read More

Amoebic liver abscess (ALA) seen commonly in the tropics is predominantly confined to adult males, especially those who consume locally brewed alcohol, although intestinal amoebiasis occurs in all age groups and in both genders. Whether the role of alcohol in the development of ALA is incidental and casual or whether alcohol is causally implicated has been debated. It has been argued that socioeconomic factors and poor sanitary conditions are the primary culprits that casually link alcohol to ALA. Read More

Introduction: Human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 gene (HER2 [also known as ERBB2]) alterations have been identified as oncogenic drivers and potential therapeutic targets in lung cancers. The molecular associations of HER2 gene amplification, mutation, and HER2 protein overexpression in lung cancers have not been distinctly defined. To explore these associations, Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center and the University of Colorado combined their data on HER2 alterations in lung cancers. Read More
