Pulmonary carcinosarcomas are rare biphasic lung tumors comprised of malignant epithelial and malignant mesenchymal components. The most common heterologous sarcomatous elements are osteosarcoma, rhabdomyosarcoma, and chondrosarcoma; a heterologous angiosarcoma component in a pulmonary carcinosarcoma is exceedingly rare. We report a case of a pulmonary carcinosarcoma containing adenocarcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma, undifferentiated malignant spindle cell, and heterologous angiosarcoma components. Read More

When a sarcomatous neoplasm is identified in the breast, distinguishing metaplastic carcinoma, malignant phyllodes tumor (MPT) and primary sarcoma is a diagnostic challenge, especially on small biopsies, as all these tumors may have overlapping morphological features, thoroughly grossing with histological examination and immunohistochemical staining are the standard approach to aid in classifying these lesions. Recently, we identified a highly sensitive and specific breast carcinoma marker TRPS1 with high expression in metaplastic breast carcinoma. Background: Central giant cell granulomas (CGCG) of the jaws are osteolytic lesions that may behave aggressively and respond poorly to surgery. Microscopically, in addition to giant cells, there is a mononuclear cell population composed of macrophage/monocytic cells and spindle-shaped cells of mesenchymal origin. 72% of these tumours harbour mutually exclusive TRPV4, KRAS and FGFR1 mutations. Throughout early phases of brain development, the two main neural signaling mechanisms-excitation and inhibition-are dynamically sculpted in the neocortex to establish primary functions. Despite its relatively late formation and persistent developmental changes, the GABAergic system promotes the ordered shaping of neuronal circuits at the structural and functional levels. Budding uninhibited by benzimidazoles (BUB1) contributes to multiple mitotic processes. Here, we describe the first two patients with biallelic germline mutations, who both display microcephaly, intellectual disability, and several patient-specific features. The identified mutations cause variable degrees of reduced total protein level and kinase activity, leading to distinct mitotic defects. Read More
