Purpose: To report a case of Purtscher-like retinopathy in a patient with milk-alkali syndrome and pancreatitis.Methods: Case report and review of the literature.Results: A 46-year-old woman presented with decreased vision following discharge from the intensive care unit, where she had been admitted for milk-alkali syndrome secondary to long-term calcium supplementation and over-the-counter antacid use, and pancreatitis. We describe the case of a 31-year-old man who presented with a 3-day history of right iliac fossa pain with associated nausea and vomiting. He denied any previous incidents of abdominal pain and had no relevant medical history or family history to note. Given the typical history, examination findings of localised peritonism and infection risk, he was taken to theatre for laparoscopic appendicectomy without diagnostic imaging. Read More

Gastrointestinal involvement in systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) usually occurs in the form of mesenteric vasculitis, protein-losing enteropathy, intestinal pseudo-obstruction, and pancreatitis. We describe a 23-year-old female, a known case of SLE presented with significant ascites and pleural effusion. Further evaluation showed elevated CA-125 levels without evidence of malignancy.
