Introduction: Sudden death may be the first manifestation of the Wolff-Parkinson-White syndrome, especially in children and adolescents.
Objectives: The aim of this study was to evaluate the usefulness of radiofrequency catheter ablation in children with Wolff-Parkinson-White syndrome with aborted sudden death.

Between 1973 and 1983, we operated on 160 patients with Wolff-Parkinson-White syndrome at Kanazawa University Hospital; 126 had Wolff-Parkinson-White syndrome alone, and 34 had combined cardiac diseases. Of the 160 patients, 140 were completely cured; postoperatively, they had no delta wave on electrocardiograms and no tachycardia attacks. In 11 patients, the delta wave reappeared an average of 56 days after operation. Read More

The surgical therapy for Wolff-Parkinson-White syndrome in patients with bronchial asthma was studied. Between 1974 and 1992, 447 patients with Wolff-Parkinson-White syndrome were treated, seven of whom had associated severe bronchial asthma. Supraventricular tachyarrhythmias were induced on occasion by bronchodilating agents such as beta-receptor agonists or theophylline preparations. Read More

The induction of ventricular tachycardia by ventricular stimulation was investigated in 46 patients with isolated Wolff-Parkinson-White syndrome (10 concealed) and 36 control patients with normal electrocardiograms and conduction systems. None of those studied had spontaneous ventricular arrhythmias or myocardial or valve disease. Single and double ventricular extrastimuli were delivered at 3 cycle lengths (sinus, 600 ms, 400 ms).
