Background: Hypertension treatment reduces morbidity and mortality yet has not been broadly implemented in many low-resource settings, including sub-Saharan Africa (SSA). We hypothesized that a patient-centered integrated chronic disease model that included hypertension treatment and leveraged the HIV care system would reduce mortality among adults with uncontrolled hypertension in rural Kenya and Uganda. Methods And Findings: This is a secondary analysis of the SEARCH trial (NCT:01864603), in which 32 communities underwent baseline population-based multidisease testing, including hypertension screening, and were randomized to standard country-guided treatment or to a patient-centered integrated chronic care model including treatment for hypertension, diabetes, and HIV. We sought to understand influences on PrEP uptake among Kenyan adolescent girls and young women (AGYW) whose decision on PrEP use was misaligned with their risk for HIV acquisition. In-depth interviews were conducted with 47 Kenyan HIV-negative AGYW aged 15-24 years who were offered PrEP during routine maternal and child health and family planning services. AGYW were sampled from two groups (1) declined PrEP and had ≥1 sexual partner(s) of unknown HIV status and (2) initiated PrEP and reported having one HIV-negative partner. Read More

Objectives: Nodular lymphocyte-predominant Hodgkin lymphoma (NLPHL) differs from classic Hodgkin lymphoma (CHL) in terms of clinicopathologic features, including Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) association. CHL geographic variability is well known, with higher frequencies of mixed-cellularity subtype and EBV positivity in low/middle-income countries (LMICs), but there are few well-characterized series of NLPHL from LMICs.Methods: We detail clinicopathologic findings of 21 NLPHL cases received in consultation from Kenya and summarize reports of NLPHL with EBV testing published since 2000. Introduction: Lower levels of adherence to antiretroviral therapy (ART) among older adolescents as compared to adults are influenced by individual, psychosocial, and treatment-related factors. Successful transition of older adolescents into HIV adult care from paediatric & adolescent focused care requires an understanding of barriers to ART adherence. This study aimed at determining individual factors affecting ART adherence among older HIV positive adolescents transitioning to adult care. Read More
