Autosomal DNA data from Peru for human identity testing purposes are scarce in the scientific literature, which hinders obtaining an appropriate portrait of the genetic variation of the resident populations. In this study we genetically characterize five populations from the Northeastern Peruvian Andes (Chachapoyas, Awajún, Wampís, Huancas and Cajamarca). Autosomal short tandem repeat (aSTR) and identity informative single nucleotide polymorphism (iiSNP) data from a total of 233 unrelated individuals are provided, and forensic genetic parameters are calculated for each population and for the combined set Northeastern Peruvian Andes. Concordance and characterization of massively parallel sequencing at 58 STRs in a Tibetan population.

Mol Genet Genomic Med 2021 Feb 25:e1626. Epub 2021 Feb 25.

Department of Forensic Medicine, School of Basic Medical Sciences, Fudan University, Shanghai, China.

Background: Massively parallel sequencing (MPS) is a promising supplementary method for forensic casework in short tandem repeats (STRs) genotyping, owing to several advantageous features in comparison to traditional capillary electrophoresis (CE). However, the application of MPS in casework requires accessible datasets from the worldwide population to enrich the allele frequencies of sequence-based STR genotypes.

Methods: In this study, we report the characterization of sequence-based allele frequencies of 58 STRs from a Tibetan population comprising 120 unrelated individuals using the ForenSeq™ DNA Signature Prep Kit. Read More

DNA Fingerprinting Unit, State Forensic Science Laboratory, Sagar, M.P., 470001, India.

Objective: This study was planned to evaluate the genetic diversity in the admixed and Teli (a Hindu caste) populations of Maharashtra, India using 20 autosomal Short Tandem Repeat (STR) genetic markers. We further investigated the genetic relatedness of the studied populations with other Indian populations.

Results: The studied populations showed a wide range of observed heterozygosity viz. Read More

Front Genet 2021 5;12:636821. Epub 2021 Feb 5.

Department of Forensic Genetics, West China School of Basic Medical Sciences and Forensic Medicine, Sichuan University, Chengdu, China.

Various compound markers encompassing two or more variants within a small region can be regarded as generalized microhaplotypes. Many of these markers have been investigated for various forensic purposes, such as individual identification, deconvolution of DNA mixtures, or forensic ancestry inference. SNP-STR is a compound biomarker composed of a single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) and a closely linked short tandem repeat polymorphism (STR), and possess the advantages of both SNPs and STRs.
