Background: Sigmoid volvulus is an uncommon problem in children and adolescents, and is rarely considered a diagnosis in this group. A high index of suspicion is necessary to reach a diagnosis and avoid morbidity and mortality. Sigmoid volvulus is a rare complication of Hirschsprung's disease, which has been reported in neonates, children, and adults. Read More

Genetic effects on the liability scale are informative for describing the genetic architecture of binary traits, typically diseases. However, most genetic association analyses on binary traits are performed by logistic regression, and there is no straightforward method that transforms both effect size estimate and standard error from the logit scale to the liability scale. Here, we derive a simple linear transformation of the log odds ratio and its standard error for a single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) to an effect size and standard error on the liability scale. Background: Transanal endorectal pull-through (TEPT) is considered the most preferable treatment method for Hirschsprung disease (HSCR) since it is less invasive and has fewer morbidities than transabdominal pull-through. Here, functional outcomes in short-segment HSCR patients after TEPT were assessed and associated with the prognostic factors. Methods: Krickenbeck classification was used to assess the functional outcomes in patients with HSCR after TEPT surgery at our institution from 2012 to 2020. The presentation of eosinophilic myenteric ganglionitis (EMG) can be similar to that of Hirschsprung's disease (HD). In a limited number of cases of pediatric patients, the diagnosis of both EMG and HD are reported. A case of pseudo-obstruction in EMG occurring in a child with HD diagnosis is discussed with literature review. Read More
