An in-situ compatibilized starch (St) and polyacrylonitrile (PAN) composite spinning solution was designed by preparing starch-graft-polyacrylonitrile (St-g-PAN) through graft copolymerizing acrylonitrile from soluble starch and using ammonium cerium nitrate (CAN) as initiator. As dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) was used as the solvent, St/St-g-PAN/PAN/DMSO spinning solution was prepared and St/St-g-PAN/PAN composite fibers were obtained by dry-wet spinning technique. Although the crystal structures of small-molecule compounds are often determined from single-crystal X-ray diffraction (scXRD), recent advances in three-dimensional electron diffraction (3DED) and crystal structure prediction (CSP) methods promise to expand the structure elucidation toolbox available to the crystallographer. In this study, a CuBTC/ZnO chitosan composite was synthesized for the adsorptive removal of methylene blue dye from aqueous streams. Characterization techniques, namely, scanning electron microscopy, Brunauer-Emmett-Teller, Fourier transform infrared, X-ray diffraction, and thermogravimetric techniques, were used to characterize CuBTC, ZnO, and CuBTC/ZnO chitosan composites. The scanning electron microscopy images revealed the rough and porous structures of the CuBTC/ZnO chitosan composite. Read More
