Purpose Of Review: Accumulated secretions in the pharynx and larynx are associated with dysphagia, aspiration and pneumonia, as well as increased social, health and economic burden. This article reviews developments in the instrumental reporting of pharyngo-laryngeal secretions over the last 2 years.Recent Findings: Although the healthy pharynx and larynx is moist, accumulation of secretions is indicative of abnormality. Background: Nutritional epidemiology research using self-reported dietary intake is prone to measurement error. Objective methods are being explored to overcome this limitation. Objectives: We aimed to examine 1) the association between plasma markers related to inflammation and derive marker scores for dietary patterns [Mediterranean dietary score (MDS), energy-adjusted Dietary Inflammatory Index (E-DIITM), Alternative Healthy Eating Index 2010 (AHEI)] and 2) the associations of these marker scores with mortality. Background: Recent population-based female breast cancer and prostate cancer polygenic risk scores (PRS) have been developed. We assessed the associations of these PRS with breast and prostate cancer risks for male BRCA1 and BRCA2 pathogenic variant carriers. Methods: 483 BRCA1 and 1,318 BRCA2 European ancestry male carriers were available from the Consortium of Investigators of Modifiers of BRCA1/2 (CIMBA). Recent evidence suggests that, in some foci, elimination of onchocerciasis from Africa may be feasible with mass drug administration (MDA) of ivermectin. To achieve continental elimination of transmission, mapping surveys will need to be conducted across all implementation units (IUs) for which endemicity status is currently unknown. Using boosted regression tree models with optimised hyperparameter selection, we estimated environmental suitability for onchocerciasis at the 5 × 5-km resolution across Africa. Read More

Human milk (HM) sodium (Na) and potassium (K) concentrations, as well as the Na and K ratio (Na:K), are associated with stages of lactation and breast health. Portable point-of-care instruments to measure HM biomarkers related to secretory activation or tight junction disturbances would supply clinicians immediate information for individualized lactation care. This study compared HM concentrations of Na and K and Na:K measured by a biochemist with inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectrometry (ICP-OES) and measured by a clinician with ion-selective electrode probes (ISEPs).
