Introduction

As a nutritional biochemist, my research involves studying the mechanisms through which dietary components and drugs alter gene expression and other downstream signaling pathways involved in carcinogenesis and other chronic diseases. The majority of my research involves conducting controlled trials in humans and evaluating intermediate biomarkers of disease risk and alterations in metabolism, e.g., inflammation, insulin signaling, biotransformation enzyme induction, etc. More recently, much of my focus has included the use of high dimensional 'omics platforms such as proteomics and metabolomics, including lipidomics and bile acids, to provide a comprehensive metabolic fingerprint of the effects of the dietary component or drug being studied.
