Resonance-enhanced high harmonic in metal ions driven by elliptically polarized laser pulses.

Resonance enhancement of a single order harmonic has been a main attractive feature in high-harmonic generation from laser ablated plumes of metals. Although it has been extensively investigated experimentally and theoretically, studies so far have focused only on linearly polarized driving fields. In this Letter, we study the dependence of the resonant harmonic yield in tin ions on the driving laser ellipticity. We find that the resonance leads to a less rapid decay of the harmonic yield as a function of driving ellipticity, and it is qualitatively reproduced by quantum mechanical simulations. To the best of our knowledge, our findings provide a new type of evidence for supporting previously proposed mechanisms for enhancement.

Therapeutic Mechanism and Effect of Camptothecin on Dextran Sodium Sulfate-Induced Ulcerative Colitis in Mice.

Camptothecin (CPT) is a cytotoxic quinoline alkaloid isolated from the bark and branches of the Chinese tree . CPT inhibits topoisomerase I. It possesses various antitumor activities and is mainly used in the treatment of colon, ovarian, liver, and bone cancers as well as leukemia. CPT inhibits the expressions of inflammatory genes and can prevent death from chronic inflammation. Therefore, we investigated the effect of CPT treatment in ulcerative colitis (UC) using DSS-induced UC mouse model; after that, we explored its potential mechanisms. Here, we found that CPT exerted protection on DSS-induced UC in rats. In addition, the administration prominently reduced the disease activity index as well as colon length of the model rats and remarkably reduced the inflammatory cytokines. Further, CPT significantly reduced several vital proinflammatory proteins in LPS-induced RAW264.7 cells. In summary, our findings demonstrate that CPT is hopefully to act as a therapeutic agent for UC.

Combination of Urine Exosomal mRNAs and lncRNAs as Novel Diagnostic Biomarkers for Bladder Cancer.

Background: The recent discovery of miRNAs and lncRNAs in urine exosomes has emerged as promising diagnostic biomarkers for bladder cancer (BCa). However, mRNAs as the direct products of transcription has not been well evaluated in exosomes as biomarkers for BCa diagnosis. The purpose of this study was to identify tumor progression-related mRNAs and lncRNAs in urine exosomes that could be used for detection of BCa.

Methods: RNA-sequencing was performed to identify tumor progression-related biomarkers in three matched superficial tumor and deep infiltrating tumor regions of muscle-invasive bladder cancer (MIBC) specimens, differently expressed mRNAs and lncRNAs were validated in TCGA dataset (n = 391) in the discovery stage. Then candidate RNAs were chosen for evaluation in urine exosomes of a training cohort (10 BCa and 10 healthy controls) and a validation cohort (80 BCa and 80 healthy controls) using RT-qPCR. The diagnostic potential of the candidates were evaluated by receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves.

Results: RNA sequencing revealed 8 mRNAs and 32 lncRNAs that were significantly upregulated in deep infiltrating tumor region. After validation in TCGA database, 10 markedly dysregulated RNAs were selected for further investigation in urine exosomes, of which five (mRNAs: KLHDC7B, CASP14, and PRSS1; lncRNAs: MIR205HG and GAS5) were verified to be significantly dysregulated. The combination of the five RNAs had the highest AUC to disguising the BCa (0.924, 95% CI, 0.875-0.974) or early stage BCa patients (0.910, 95% CI, 0.850 to 0.971) from HCs. The expression levels of these five RNAs were correlated with tumor stage, grade, and hematuria degrees.

Conclusions: These findings highlight the potential of urine exosomal mRNAs and lncRNAs profiling in the early diagnosis and provide new insights into the molecular mechanisms involved in BCa.

[Status of undernutrition of left-behind children under 6 years old in rural China in 2013].

Objective: To analyze and describe the status and characteristics of undernutrition among left-behind children under 6 years old in rural China in 2013.

Methods: Data was from the China Nutrition and Health Surveillance among 0-5 Years Old Children and Lactating Women in 2013. Stratified multistage cluster sampling method was used, and 4576 participants under 6 years old from 55 sites of 30 provinces, autonomous region and municipalities were involved. Definition of undernutrition were according to the WHO 2006 growth standard in children less than 5 years old and the WHO 2007 growth reference in children of 5 years old. Results were computed by post stratification weight based on national census from the National Bureau of Statistics in 2010.

Results: The prevalence of stunting was 10. 6% among left-behind children under 6 years old in rural China in 2013. It was 11. 6% in boys and 9. 4% in girls. The rate of general rural area and poor rural area were 7. 1% and 16. 6%. The prevalence of stunting showed a significant difference in sex(P=0. 022), general rural and poor rural(P=0. 006), three regions(P=0. 003), parental type of outing(P=0. 005), mother's education(P<0. 001), annual per capita household income(P<0. 001). The prevalence of underweight was 3. 2% among left-behind children under 6 years old in rural China in 2013. It was 3. 4% in boys and 2. 9% in girls. The rate of general rural area and poor rural area were 1. 6% and 2. 0%. The prevalence of stunting showed a significant difference in general rural and poor rural(P<0. 001), three regions(P<0. 001), annual per capita household income(P=0. 0144), mother's education(P<0. 001). The prevalence of wasting was 2. 3% among left-behind children under 6 years old in rural China in 2013. It was 2. 3% in boys and 2. 2% in girls. The rate of general rural area and poor rural area were 1. 5%, 3. 5%. The prevalence of stunting of general rural showed a significant difference in parental type of outing(P=0. 033), the prevalence of stunting of poor rural showed a significant difference in mother's education(P<0. 001), annual per capita household income(P=0. 020).

Conclusion: The undernutrition rate among left-behind children under the age of 6 in rural China should be paid attention, especially in the higher subgroups of poor rural areas, western regions, low-income families, mothers away from home and mothers with less than junior middle school education.
