Introduction

I am a cancer biologist with expertise in cytogenetics of leukemia, in vitro assays of genotoxicity, and genetics of human diseases. In 2010 I joined ISNU for academic research with M.Sc. & Ph.D. students in Genetics and Cancer. Currently I am teaching courses like Cell Biology, Human Genetics, Cancer Biology along with guiding dissertation projects in final year. After M.Sc. in Microbiology from M.S. University of Baroda I worked in a clinical research laboratory of Gujarat Cancer & Research Institute where I also completed my Ph.D. on cytogenetics of neoplasia from Gujarat University. During my tenure at G.C.&R.I. for about 23 yrs I worked on leukemia cytogenetics clinical research on patients samples and carried out projects funded by the GSBTM, GUJCOST, and ICMR Indo-German. I had established automation in chromosome studies of leukemia, and also started FISH, m-FISH, and BAC-FISH for the first time which has now become a routine test. With PhD guideship from Nirma University in 2010 there are 2 PhD projects completed on genetic determinants of ideopathic mental retardation, and gentoxicity of nanoparticles with funding support from GSBTM and GUJCOST. Currently there are three ongoing PhD projects on genetic analysis of spontaneous abortions, parental and meiotic origin of Down syndrome, radio protective activity of plant extracts. The Ministry of AYUSH has funded the last project which is in collaboration with Institute of Pharmacy. My collaboration with Institute of Technology are; automation in image analysis for cytogenetics, and biological effect of exposure to cell phone radiation. Apart from teaching and research I am involved in various activities of the institute and university like; Vice President of Alumni Association, Institute coordinator of University and Alumni Newsletters, worked for DSIR recognition as SIRO for university, coordinator for Students Placement, Student Section, Library council. The Social Extension activity is part of curriculum at Nirma University, as a coordinator at ISNU I have established linkages with Blind People Association, Ahmedabad, BM Institute of Mental Health, and the UN recongnized NGO for specially abled people VOSAP, and have introduced use of FOLDSCOPE, innovation of Manu Prakash lab of Stanford University for rural education and spreading passion for science.
