PhD

Introduction

During my undergraduate and graduate programs, I studied i) structural and functional biochemistry (BS), ii) biochemistry and genetics of micro-organisms (MS), iii) molecular biology, epidemiology and evolution of human and simian enteroviruses (PhD). My findings, especially the genetic features of new enterovirus types (EV-A71 genogroup E, EV-J121, EV-122 and EV-123) and virulent recombinant polioviruses, raised interests in the international research community leading to a collaborative study funded by the World Health Organization (WHO). From 2013 to 2016, I served as co-investigator of that WHO-funded research to identify virological factors that favor the emergence of recombinant polioviruses in Cameroon, Chad, Nigeria and Democratic Republic of Congo. During the same period, I worked as Research Associate in a study characterizing HIV-1 M+O co-infections and VIH-1 M/O recombinants circulating in Cameroon. Since June 2015, I study the molecular determinants that could favor the emergence and propagation of enteric and neurotropic viruses. In addition, I supervise the national reference laboratory for Rabies, Monkey Pox and Viral Hemorrhagic Fevers. I have gained strong experience in virus detection, genetic characterization of pathogens and molecular epidemiology.
